I am is a personal classic. For some reason people dont want to give nas credit for that album which is amazing outside of like 2 songs.

Glad you mentioned this, because it's an odd trend that's been seen from critics to various hip hop heads, it seems like cats don't want to let Nas have this one. It happened last year quite a bit because I even saw some of the biggest Jay stans give him love, but others were stubborn as hell(Jay Stan or not). Fast forward to this year you see people finding any tired narrative that isn't true...here we are in here saying that dude has a possibility of six classics and that's the opposite of the narrative (bad beats subpar discography). I just wanna let them have it but it's hard to just let it go because none of what they say is true.

Funny you mention that because I don't get the I Am being subpart narrative when it got 4.5 mics in The Source iirc...I loved that album lol, some of his best songs are on there

Sonically didn't age great all the through. Suffered from 1998-1999itis that persisted throughout commercial hip hop sans maybe DMX. "I Wanna Talk To You" dies on the 'strength' of the hook imho lol.

CLASSIC TRACKS on it for sure.

he says on “The Pressure.” “Only island that my "nikkas knew was Rikers or Staten,” he says on “40 Side,” a line that’s neither clever nor true—his native Queensbridge neighborhood is just across Roosevelt Island from an island called Manhattan."

“On Spirit World Field Guide, this fascination with creatures widens into a cosmology. Animals no longer play bit parts in Aesop Rock’s intricate tapestries; they are the omphalos, a turn that leans into Aesop’s wearied misanthropy and softens it. This is the most joyous album he’s ever made.“

IIRC he was pretty rich broke/cash poor around Distant Relatives and Life Is Good. Did a lot of alluding to it especially on Distant Relatives in regards to the divorce and his issues at the time.

But anyone with a plan that has access in certain rooms that having a million doors gets you into (as said on the JBP back then) gives you ample space to bounce bacc. Hence him getting out of prior contracts, opening businesses and making smart investments on the ground level.
He was never broke p*ssy ass Mexican
Skipping a few tax returns doesn't make a nikka broke you stupid fukk
You're on Nas' dikk more than his female fans

Nas wasn’t broke at all. Only reason he had tax issues was because of his accountant fukking some shyt up. Nas been PAID for a long time now. That was exposed thru his divorce proceedings. Which he was mad about because he didn’t want people knowing his financial business and rathered people think he was broke.

This is the shyt that one of you guys were talking about. What's wrong with just shutting the fukk up and writing the goddamn review? You'll never even hear good novelists masturbate like this.

This is something that's always bothered me about how critics approach Nas and also rap in general. They don't want him to talk about his success and think he should only write about QB. They wanna see him on some "sittin bent up in the stairway" shyt forever. The crypto Scarface line was dope too, still don't get the hate for it. I guess it makes more sense if you know about how Nas invested in Coinbase early.
They don't like Black prosperity. Holy shyt, yhis is some super Player Hating Degree shyt. :scust:
Nas should buy Pitchfork and fire everybody. lol
