I haven't read a single review. Can somebody tell me the general sentiment in the couple of bad reviews? Like what is their overarching complaint, if there is one.

Only one really bad review which is Pitchfork (6.1/10) but the issue now seems to be that Nas is clumsier and not sharper on the rhymes. I have seen a couple of others say that although hes not washed or anything hes not attacking the track with his rapping like before. To me thats been done on purpose to let the beats breath and adjust to a modern generation of listeners. Also some dont like his luxury rap mode I guess (as if what is he supposed to rap given where he is in life)

But its not a loud opinion.....yet

So now after years of complaining about his beats, now its complaining about what he chooses to rap and how, which is basically nitpicking

There’s literally only one review that complained about his rhymes and it was damn near a fukkin troll review. So that’s not what I would call a “sentiment” at all. I don’t know if that’s how u personally feel but that isn’t a consensus opinion at all.

Copy.

I can at least understand that a little bit...I thought they would just be on some random bullshyt because they don't like Nas in general...or love Jay-z and are still bitter. Nas is still a f'n animal lyrically but you are 100% right, he definitely has learned not to "over-rhyme" anymore and let the beat live more...it's clear on KD2 and super clear on KD1, flow is much choppier and paced. I think Hitboy may have something to do with that.

You stated. “The black music these people fukk with is largely shyt that is so big it can't be denied. The Beyonces and Kendricks.”
What’s so big about their music?
What’s deniable about Nas’ music?
They have massive fanbases, do arena tours and sell millions of albums alongside hit songs? The major publications treat music like a popularity contest. The big artists get the profile pieces. And now of days, reviews have blended into profile pieces. Not just for big artists but also critical darlings…peep the pieces on Tyler’s (dope) album. Lil Nas X has a big piece in Vulture right now about homophobia in rap. Yet you’ll never see him get a bad review for being an internet troll who makes generic pop music.

My point is that black music only truly matters to these publications when it’s an event that will drive clicks/engagement. White people aren’t reading a profile piece on Rick Ross in 2021…so they give him a 6, say the album is tired, and keep it moving. That’s why I don’t care about a Nas review from them. The people who make “the culture” move fukk with the album so why should I care what Pitchfork thinks?

Like I said its not a loud opinion but with this album and the last one theres a complaint about how the structure of the veres his too laid back (Even talking to people personally I know some that wish Death Row East was more a linear, 2 or 3 verses of straight talking about the Pac situation like Last Real nikka Alive)

Again its a small complaint, its one I disagree with but Ive noticed thats one negative thing some people have said. But again dont get it twisted its not people saying its an issue (other than CaCFork)

Like I responded to him. There was literally only one review that complained about his rhyming and that shyt was basically a troll review. Check out the rhymes he had a problem with. It was goofy shyt. No one else on the internet have I seen have this issue. Especially no other reviewers.

That's not true his Emceeing on King Disease 1 was better lyrically, technically, poetry, story telling then on King Disease 2 we seen a vicious combination of an elder Nasty Nas, The Wiser leader Boss of the family Nas Escobar, elder Black revolutionary Nasir and God Son that came together and blended perfectly, very similar to Pac on 7 Day Theory when different sides The Black Panther Rebel of The Underground, The Thug, The Poet, The torture blues Man, The West Coast Rider, The Black Jesus learn to co exist together.

King Disease is a better album then King Disease 2 not only lyrically but sonically Ultra Black was that single that this album didn't have, Car 85, The Firm reunion and so much more, The album just have that feeling that you listening to something great, an event. I can go on. But hip hop fans know that album was Nas

King Disease 2 was beating my Chest, acknowledge me, I'm that Gangsta, I got that money now, I'm that nikka that from the east coast that didn't back down from Pac and Hit-Boy I'm better than my teacher. It felt like they wanted the respect that they deserve when really they had the respect, and that's why in some of the fan's and music critic eyes it seem forced.

It's a great hip hop album, Not a Classic Album and not better than the original

In MOST of the fans and critics eyes, this album surpassed KD1. And KD1 is GREAT.
