Classics are made in time not upon drop.
The definition of classic is judged over a period of time to be of high quality.
Reasonable Doubt is the definition of classic.
Vol. 2 dropped only 2 years after stop it lol.
Illmatic was an instant classic. So was Ready to Die, All Eyez on me, 36 Chambers, Midnight Marauders. I’m old enough to live it in realtime. I was in High School in Brooklyn during 96-98. I know the word at that moment. Any other time i was either too young or too old and disconnected. But those years, you can’t tell me nothing about music and what we talked about and listened to daily.
Jay was good but not at that level. I love Jigga though. He is absolutely relentless and willed himself into legendary status. But he didnt have the glow about him right away. Wu had the glow, Pac was the brightest glow, Biggie had it but not as bright but his color was the nicest.
