If nas never sold out from being a cultural artist to being a jiggy sellout one with no culture.
His career sonically would have taken a different route and he would have possibly continued after his debut album to have great production.
Nas has not had a great beat since swizz beats the general as a solo artist and hot boys as a high profile commercial feature before that. Which are all departures from what his direction should be to maximize his draw potentially.
it was rehashes or the lazy pre-req primo go to beat.
everyone went to when they were trying to prove.
they were still cultural and pander to the culture/underground.

shyt is you were to ask me,...outside of the overly commercial I am the general.
I would say, on the real was the last real nas song ever made.
Plus, his last best beat where nas was really nasty nas.

As I said, once you start looking at unreleased Nas, he obliterates 99% of rappers

This is a series rehash of his illmatic production, tho.
Which would not be a pigeon hole or a place marker sonically to him as an artist if he never sold out.

nikkaz so desperate to hear the real cultural nasty nas they start reaching than a motherfukker.
For a guy who has not existed since the commercial sellout remix to one love.

They are all pander beats like the track masters used.

Can't think of anyone who has been more consistent beat wise than 3-6 Mafia :yeshrug:

Na, Jay's production is far better than Nas' and I'm a Nas stan.

:yeshrug:

Gotta keep it real.
I think it depends on what type of beats you're looking for...Jay definitely got some duds too...but I do think Jays ear WAS better than Nas' at one point. But Nas got CLASSSIC SHYT....case in point...

This is just about as subjective as a conversation can be. For the record I disagree, but I can't tell u that what u think is great production isn't great.

To me just some of the people that have consistently been on better production than Nas are Jay, Big, Mase, Fab, Ross, Drake, Beans, Kanye, just about everyone from prime Rocafella, Snoop, Dre, these are just some that I can think of off the top, there's plenty more that it's very debateable to me. With that said, to me, it's not even a question if Nas is even in the conversation of best overall production over the course of his career. I think that just speaks to how talented he really is though, most rappers survive off of great production first and foremost, Nas on the other hand is one of the GOATs in spite of his production. Not saying his beats have been bad, but they haven't carried him like so many other rappers.

Half of the rappers you named are lucky to have 3 albums to their name. Mase? "Everyone" from Rocafella? Take out Dre and Kanye because the vast majority of their best songs/beats have been their own

i know exactly what you are saying alot of these cats are dense as fukk on this board

you take out all the bad beats ... he still has like 5 CDs worth of just classic songs with perfect beats

Lost Tapes alone is a perfect example of what you're trying to say
nikkas got a whole throwaway project of perfect, well developed classics

Lets talk about this though, if you have random producers and not a main in house guy
AND you smoke way too much weed (Snoop, Nas) Does that make you rap over certain shyt you thought was dope more?
and then it ends up being a mess basically because you are too high with nobody to reign you in?

redman had sermon to reign him in
cypress hill had muggz
alot of stoners have one main dude

but the ones that go to random producers are picking random beats

the N - whole project was riddled with dope beats
Hero was dope as fukk I dont care what anyone says
Alot of Distant Relatives was just perfect ... nothing over the top just a perfect vibe

Streets Disciple was all over the place but had alot of heat in between .. not saying this is the best beat but its a banger
