Bull shyt
So wait a minute. Nas got a bad work ethic but dropped 4 albums in the 90's (94' to 99'), 5 in the 2000's and 1 in the 2010's (by this point, he can drop whenever he feels like it). Among guest appearances on other artists' albums.
They comparing him to Jay-Z who has a mass quantity of albums but what about the quality of those albums? U telling me all those albums Jay dropped every single year up till the 2003 were all classics? Hell no. Neither was Nas'. But to act like Jay-Z dropped nothing but classic is a fukking lie and bullshyt.
What good is that work ethic if the quality of work doesn't consistently reflect that? This ain't 2pac we talking bout. 2pac had the quantity and quality and Nas has that down better than Jay-Z. nikkas be hyping up everything Jay do every time he come out w/ some shyt, but Jay dropped a lot of half ass albums. nikkas be acting like every single 1 of them bytches is classics. lmao
nikkas who dikk ride Jay-Z in every way still mad Nas won w/ Takeover and is a better lyricist and MC than Jay-Z and can't accept that fact.
Jay got all the money in the world, the so called "hottest chick in the game" a family and basically everyone from Oprah to Obama giving him props but because he ain't got that level of praise that Nas has amongst his peers his fans still ain't satisfied with his place in Hip Hop.
Man, get the fukk outta here with this bullshyt. Jay ain't got an album that can fukk w/ Illmatic, It Was Written, Life Is Good, or Stillmatic (only 1 shytty song on this album!). Nas had the better double album w/ Street's Disciple too. SD > The Blueprint 2
Jay can be Hip Hop's greatest businessman/mogul/hustler and all of that, but when it comes to the pen and pad, rhymes, spitting, flow, lyrics, songs (frivolous mindless songs --- Jay excels at), Nas wins.
every single one of y'all is missing the point of what he was trying to say. he wasn't saying nas had a shytty work ethic so he ain't shyt.. or he ain't great.. or one of the greatest.. or nothing like that.. he said the reason jay-z won, is because nas work ethic... straight up jay vs nas and this is not about ether or the beef
what this is all about, is Nas was the supposed to be the motherfukking KING of rap... fukk NY.. the king of it all... the next rakim.. the most sought after.. the 5 mic on his debut album nikka... the dude with all the greats standing behind him... the bidding war with everyone who was somebody... AND HE WAS OUT IN 94... he had the head start on jay by 2 years
now what happened next is both facts and opinion.. you can say jay didn't put out the best music.. you can also say nas didn't... you could say jay did.. you can say nas did.. that's all going to depend on which person you talk to
what is not up for debate, is that jay put out HITS year after year after year after year. never not once did you go 365 without new jay music... and it came with a hit record, great sales, and a new trend to follow.
somehow jay-z slid right into nas spot.. suddenly he was not only the king of ny, but the king of hip hop. others sold more, but didn't sell more, for as long. people were bigger in a given year or years, but jay would outwork you for longer.. "the reason why you lose the race, this is a marathoon.. you start off fast, but then you wheezing in the back, while i got enough leeqay to put out the reason by the mack, philadelphia freeway and i'm back"
the roc became the rap status symbol.. jay became the icon.. nas would hit you with an album every other, do great numbers, and disappear. IT WASN'T ONLY THE ALBUM THO.. what about tours? features? clothing? etc etc.
jay simply outworked nas in all aspects and his status proved it. jay is seen as the BIGGER artist together vs nas. even if you think nas is better and puts out better music. his recluse (self admitted) ways, hurt him from becoming who jay is... that was his spot
