Nas stan reporting in.

The work ethic he's speaking on is not just the amount of albums released in a span of time (even though that's the one example he gave)... them times I was in high school... and it's clear to me why Jay-Z is above Nas commercially. In those times... let's say 1999-2003... look how many fukkin remixes Jay-Z was on... that were huge. Like c'mon... even Mya Best of Me... how many years did we have to hear that? Nas could have done these... but why not??? That's basically the difference in Jay fans and Nas fans... Jay fans like what everybody listening to... Nas fans like rap. So, he right. He appeared in more places that mattered to the short attention span, which is even worse today. That's why he won. We still waiting for Nas til this day.

lol my theory for years has been that old nikkas hate Nas. If you're over 35 you probably stopped being a Nas fan in '97

You can't compare jay to nas and why someone is more successful than the other

Jay is the type that will dumb his shyt completely down and do what's popular at the time. Nas doesn't go completely that route and go with that sound. That's why jay is more successful in the rap game. Point blank...

that's not work ethic...that's selling your soul for the riches. nas has always said he never wanted that path/spotlight. Remember, everythingStoute did for jayz he wanted/had in plan for Nas but Nas was like:whoa:

This implies that Nas doesn't have material unreleased that he has just sitting around.

You don't know how much time dude puts into his work and you don't know how much dope material is sitting in a rhyme book yet to be heard.

To question an artist's work ethic is straight up insulting.

C'mon dog... put it into perspective. Now, we're both happy where Nas is today being Nas fans, but in the grand scheme – Jay-Z did the dirty work Nas ain't want. So being that they're intertwined into the same genre of music and both rapping... you could only place it to work ethic. Jay-Z calls it "work ethic" on why he was so active... Nas calls it "ethics" on why he wasn't... that's exactly the difference... what appears to be "work ethic" got the hollow body no soul havin majorities attention; having "ethics" is what lost Nas that same chunk. The same comparison works anywhere you go... somebody was always willing to work harder than even THEIR beliefs; or change their BELIEFS for work.

Remember, I'm about Nas all day (pause)... but Jay-Z got me arguing rap with people who don't give a shyt about rap... because of his "work ethic". Our arguments can only survive for so long. Imagine where they'll place Nas 50 years from now cause he ain't have that amount of chart toppers smh...

why

how many 90's superstars are left

Nas was relevant before Jay-Z and is still here. :heh:

opinions aren't fact. The fact is you could look at Nas class of 90's and see who's still here and that statement isn't true.

An artist doesn't have to be a businessman. The reason Nas won still relevant and still here is because he was always a great artist first and foremost that's undeniable.
Nas first album was only 2 years before jay-z first album. Not like he was around 5-10 years before jay. He was more popular jay still fits in that timeline of rappers. He just wasn't as popular as the others

it's not work ethic...nas was in no way slacking on studio work. nas unreleased catalogue alone speaks on that...he and jay just had different end goals. Jay came in with "Im a hustler not a rapper" outlook while Nas was more of a pure artist, like music has always been regardless of genre before rap became obsessed with the mogul. To quote some old posts on the same topic

man stfu...

The point is why does this dumb shyt apply to rappers?

and certain ones at that. Never seen a thread on 98% of the rappers and business
. It always seems to boil down to Jay, 50, Diddy and Nas. Sometimes Ross and Dr Dre.

Why no thread on Andre 3K and his lack of business sense? Or Eminem??

yup..like I said

nas came into the game only about music like most artists across almost all genres. Nas was anti-pop and to a large degree did everything he could to run away and avoid fame, this also included business moves

this hiphop business/mogul shyt only really took off in the late 90s and isn't associated/tied to any other musical genre

"You gotta realize that all rappers complain about their careers, but you ain't heard Nas complain about his career [laughs]. You don't get here just fu***** around. If Snoop Dogg makes a Snoop hot-dog then Nas gotta make one? If I decide I want to do movies or clothes I'll do them. None of this s*** is rocket science."

Nas in 06

No troll... Why do you think Jay has had so much more business success than Nas?

My whole point is that the there aren't a lot of 90's rappers on their level so how could you say someone has a poor work ethic and lost when he outlived most of his peers. Let's not even get into the fact that Nas has one of the best and largest unreleased catalogues in rap. When was he lazy?

:why:
He dropped 5 albums between 96 and 02. That was the standard at the time.
Forget 96, he dropped 2 albums in a year and 4 albums in 3 years...which bookended the Jay Z friction (99-02).

Didn’t bother listening because he said Jay won anyway.
