I mean regardless of the biases of police officers in general, the only thing to play the odds with them is act respectful and normal and hope it's an uneventful interaction. I mean what the fukk else can a normal person in that situation do?

Maybe record all interactions but I mean there is nothing special whether you are black or white you can do differently if you're pulled over except try to minimize hostilities and do anything on your end to make the interaction as benign as possible.

I dont have a problem with how he answered the question. He wasn't asked how to stop police brutality, he was ask what he would tell his son to do in order to not be shot. His answer was exactly what your parents or grandparents would tell you.

Keep your hands in plain sight, be as respectful as possible, get the cops name and badge number, and make sure their body cam is working. You know they're trigger happy and you know they need very little excuse to kill you and get away with it. Do whatever you can to make it home that night.

It shouldn't be this way, but it is.

This is what the brother did. There is nothing else he could have done in that situation. He was respectful and shown he wasn't escalating the situation in anyway possible. No one is saying this is ok. But "What would you tell your son to do if pulled over by the officers", what this dude did in the video is the best course of action to ensure you don't give them any justification to try and pump you full of bullets. Given the video, the only other piece of advice I would give is invest in a dash cam or something that records all interactions. But this dude was dying for him to react in a negative way or do something that can be misconstrued as "Hostile" and he was smart enough not to give him that opportunity.

The question isn't whether this is the way things should be. It isn't. But unfortunately we know the biases and inequalities exists in the system as of now and outside of implementing changes in the institution itself at a government level which is a whole other political discussion the reality is that for every day people, the best you can do is try to minimize conflict and hope it ends up the best until said changes can be implemented. Just like its not right for people to get their money stolen from them if they walk down the street with it in hand, its still not a bad thing to tell a person what they can do to minimize their chances of having their money stolen such as not walking down the street with it in hand. It won't end robbery as a whole but it is one way to minimize chances of victimization. It's not victim blaming as it is moving smartly in a world you know has bad actors in it. The unsaid implication is that of course you also want to rid the world of the bad actors at the same time.

Stop asking white people for life advice. They believe their perspective and experiences are default.

Plenty of black people have been shot by police while not engaging in a crime or being combative.

They also don’t take into account the amount of cops who are blatantly disrespectful to us, and escalate situations, or the fact that we are racially profiled, and have to deal with the police more often than they do. Add to that, Bill DeBlasio, white man with clearly black son said he had to tell his son how to deal with police, and white people got mad and said he was being racist and demonizing them. So are we supposed to tell our kids how to handle police of not?

This is why it makes no sense to let white people tell us how to function. They are clearly sociopaths.
