Total Recall and Robocop remakes showed why PG13 is inferior to R pretty well :yeshrug:. It depends on the genre too....obviously comic books do PG13 well because the source material is already targeted to that age group. The problem people have is when u take R rated source material and dumb it down to PG13....its pretty simple. Horror movies I can't really take seriously if they're PG13 either....only thing u can do at that point is lame jump scares.
the ring was pg13 tho shyt had me shook :lupe: but yea i agree in general if you're a horror movie and you're not R most likely gonna suck

PG-13 doesn't make it a bad movie, but it's outlandish to think a little more realism and making it rated R couldn't make it better. Any movie where there are monsters killing people ie Godzilla, or there are gun fights and people die and there is no blood turns me off to the flick. It just does. It doesn't mean the movie sucked, it means it could have been more realistic.

How about we take a look at some classic R rated movies and see if they would've worked as a PG-13 movie, since it seems the premise of this thread is that PG-13 is "good enough" in terms of what you can display on screen without hurting an adult story. Could you imagine a PG-13 version of Gladiator? :scusthov: Alien? Seven? the list goes on and on really.
Great point!

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
The last NON R rated comic book movies:

Guardians of the Galaxy: 300+ Million
Amazing Spider Man 2: 200+ Million
X men DOFP: 200+ Million
Cap America 2: 200+ Million
Thor 2: 200 + Million
Man of Steel: 300 Million
Iron Man 3: 400+ Million

Last R RATED comic book movies

Dredd: 13 million
Punisher Warzone: 8 Million
Kickass 2: 28 million
Watchmen: 107 Million

R rated isn't whats hot in these streets brehs. Yall need to give up this bullshyt claim that if u add a lil blood and profanity, it's gonna all of a sudden make a movie better. :camby:

And you're equating income gross to quality and realistic portrayals of collateral damage.

I have 0 respect for hunger games since its a blatant rip off of battle royale :camby:

:shaq2: You're really reaching here. When people say this, it just seems like a lazy excuse to hate on the books/movie. I don't hate on Armageddon just because its similar to Deep Impact. And we can say that Battle Royale ripped off The Running Man and The Long Walk. It's really all the same story. People act like the idea of people being made to fight to the death and/or being hunted for sport is original. It was used long before either one of these movies were made and it will be the premise for movies in the future. The only difference is that they both involve kids. And the Hunger Games story line is way more complex because its about revolution. The actual games are only a fraction of the story.

How are we this far in the thread and nobody has mentioned Spawn?

I understand but those movies were extremely watered down in comparison to the comics.

They have to be to an extent because more people see the x men movies than read the x men comics. How many times do we talk about comic book flicks and have people say they don't read the comics? They aren't just making these movies for people who read the comics

I honestly thought World War Z was a disappointment because of the PG-13 rating, the movie had a certain suspense that i thought was great but it never really did go the whole way through. And i honestly didn't see any close shot violence/blood or horror in it. Just a suspense feeling, Brad Pitt with his perfect hair traveling around for a cure and pepsi commercials could be a brief description of the movie.

See, I'd put that on the movie not the rating. The Ring had plenty of suspense and it's PG 13. Moves are made first and then once they're sent to the MPAA, they get ratings. If the studio decides they want a movie to be R or PG or PG 13, then cuts are made but something like suspense being built is all on direction and that movie had a lot of problems in production and was saved (or not saved depending on your opinion) in the editing room
