How about we take a look at some classic R rated movies and see if they would've worked as a PG-13 movie, since it seems the premise of this thread is that PG-13 is "good enough" in terms of what you can display on screen without hurting an adult story. Could you imagine a PG-13 version of Gladiator? :scusthov: Alien? Seven? the list goes on and on really.

I watched Gladiator on TV and it was still a damn good movie even with the violence edited down

Now was Live Free of Die Hard a bunch of bullshyt regardless of what the rating was going to be or was it because they were limited by the studio on what they could do?

I have to say to Die Hard movies that were PG-13. You can't make a good Die Hard movie without vulgarity. Cops don't talk in PG-13. Also, most war movies need to be rated R because it's fukking war. Imagine Saving Private Ryan as a PG-13 joint. Or Blackhawk Down. :camby:

I liked the old system better either the movie were G, PG or R. This cartoon level of violence is dangerous to children and young adults to watch.

A rating doesn't make a movie good or bad. It's all about the execution of the script and directing. Live Free or Die Hard was meh because it was meh. On the real, A Good Day to Die Hard was rated R and it was horrible; worse than Live Free or Die Hard by country miles. Dark Knight was PG 13 and didn't suffer because of it. There are ways to imply blood and gore without showing it. Halloween could've been rated PG 13 in terms of violence and gore

yea but implying it and showing it are 2 different things. depends on the scene and how the filmmaker wants you to feel at that particular moment. sometimes it's better not to see it, sometimes it is.

I agree but that doesn't make a movie worse or better imo. I'll go back to die hard. There was an outcry about live free not being rated R so they made a good day to die hard rated R and it was horrible. It doesn't matter what the MPAA does if the movie itself is bad to begin with.

What I don't like is how the system change in these days. I feel like they treat rated "R" like "NC-17". I believe it is a matter of milking dollars. Let face it as long as people are willing to pay they will supply it....American will eat it up no matter what and they realized it's :trash: but yet they still coming to watch the films....American are dumb! Look at the reality shows, look at the shytty music, look at the video games, etc.

The real problem I have is that movies often tend to reflect the times in which they're made, so I honestly think that today's movies are often reflective of these times as well; the era of the "dumbing down of America", which has been going on for the past 20-30 years, has continued, and has affected Hollywood's ability to come up with any more creative ideas. Hence, the number of sequals and remakes have increased....by a f*cking lot.

Now, some Asian countries like Korea have definitely more interesting story lines in general and yet the American still remaking off Korea films.

Total Recall and Robocop remakes showed why PG13 is inferior to R pretty well :yeshrug:. It depends on the genre too....obviously comic books do PG13 well because the source material is already targeted to that age group. The problem people have is when u take R rated source material and dumb it down to PG13....its pretty simple. Horror movies I can't really take seriously if they're PG13 either....only thing u can do at that point is lame jump scares.

Alien would have been just as great as a PG 13 flick. just tone the language and its still a classic

how are you going to do a pg-13 chest bursting scene? The chest burst scene is literally one of the most iconic scenes in film history.

R movies being turned into pg 13, is not the thread...thats not fair nor is it the same thing. This is about FINISHED PRODUCT PG13 being "enhanced" with r level vulgarity violence or blood or nudity. Stay focused.

Robocop and total recall are good suggestions tho. I dont think recall wouldve been enhanced but the stakes in og robocop felt higher than in 2013 because of the violence. I'll agree to that.

I can also think of a movie that was rated R and still ruined in a way. Lauren Graham shoulda had a scene in Bad Santa like Halle did in Monster's Ball. Hell almost every actress should. She's no where near as bad as Halle but that fukk me Santa scene still gold
