I've been trying to find some silver linings in there, too. I mean, he has good lateral foot speed. He's quick enough to get beat and still guide his man away from the hoop. But that's if I'm only focusing on the 6% of defensive possessions where he gives a fukk.

He's small. He's got Reptar arms. He barely pays attention when if they're not late in the game and it's obvious his man is about to go at him.

I really think he's going to be so much fun to watch. I won't necessarily be upset if he's a Knick, but I just don't think his profile fits with the kind of player you want for a successful team.

Some players are harder to build around. I think Portland is kind of learning that lesson right now. OKC, too - to a certain extent. And I'm a straight up russ STAN.

I'm not a huge fan of the ball dominant short combo guards either. I think guys like Harden and Westbrook dominate the ball so much that all their numbers are highly inflated and overblown.

With that said the important thing you mentioned is the word "build around" hopefully if KP lives up to his hype he can be that type of player so a DSJ would just have to be a sidekick not a guy we build around like their doing in Okc Houston and Portland

Old Brooklyn
an undersized bigman with no discernible skills besides rebounding that makes 16 million a year? :hubie:
no thanks. you take away his rebounding...he's a liability...see these finals :picard:
Wouldn't Thompson, even with the flaws, be a tempting piece for some teams that are still trying to break the ceiling into the playoffs? He'd also be tradeable whenever.

Melo on the Cavs would be exciting and I would not expect to see even Tristan as a Knick past draft night.

He still was a question mark before he stepped on the court I didn't see you guys reactions but most were like why knicks pick this dude

I'm on the record wanting KP and loving the pick when it happened. I can't worry about what "most were" like.

But that was kinda my point, just because you're unfamiliar with the name, doesn't mean the kid can't play.

If you're a point guard you are going to have other pgs blow past you. Even the best can't handle Wall, Thomas, Westbrook, Kyrie. Point guards are the one position in which they will always get theirs.
Even with Thompson on Kyrie tonight, he is still eating.

Yeah but DSJ isn't getting chopped up by john wall, he's getting cut the fukk up by guys who won't sniff the nba.

There's a difference.

Even if Porzingis develops into the star we all hope he will -- you don't often win with one star. You need multiple stars/great talents who compliment each other. I don't see DSJ complimenting KP in the way frank does.

Again, it's all a matter of opinion, and DSJ is gonna have big games early, because he's a freak athlete, who could get hot shooting and dunk on some guys. Frank is a longer term project, but I think ultimately he looks like he'll be able to do more things.

And as always, the draft is largely projection and estimation now, because all these kids are 19-20.

Listen I have no idea what Frank is gonna be so im open to anything . The only thing that worries me is hearing his lack of first step speed and explosion

In today's NBA the only way to be a star without those attributes is to shoot it like Steph which nobody does

And I acknowledge DSJ is a dangerous pick. I see a lot of Steve Francis in him and I don't mean that as a total compliment

I could see Lebron pushing for it but don't know if that deal helps either team that much. Thompson's a useful role player on a good team, unfortunately the Knicks stink.
I feel like he's a good match next to KP, great rebounder, P&R defender, can finish inside efficiently. Phil wants to get rid of Melo, and LeBron needs more help to counter the Durant acquisition and would love to play with his good friend. It's one of the only places Melo would waive his no trade clause to. Also, I don't think the Cavs can go into next season playing a 6'9 center, their defense was atrocious this year. They have this kid Edy Tavares who is 7'3 and won D-League DPoY.

Thompson+Shumpert+1st Round Pick for Melo :patrice:

Totally. In theory, a great coach/organization can accentuate a guy like DSJ's talents, OR Frank's talents.

I just want to remind people, that even a Francis comparison -- Smith is at least two inches shorter, and like 25 pounds lighter.

After all the shyt Lebron said about Phil why would he do him a favor in a trade like this?

I don't think it's that deep. :manny:

Cleveland is one of the only places where Melo will waive his no trade clause and we can get a pick and rotational pieces back. At this point I think its clear Phil wants to get rid of Melo at any cost.
