My Pops Forever RIP
The good news is that one of Frank, Fox and Smith Jr. is bound to fall to us. If none of them do, that should mean that Isaac or Tatum has dropped instead. We're gonna get a quality piece out of this. If we got Frank and then also brought Milos Teodosic over to play a mentor and be a Euro Vet for our all Euro squad...:patrice:
Teodosic will get paid too much to settle for that kind of role.
The talk amongst the smart basketball writers is that the draft concept is useless. Basically that rookies should be able to choose their teams, so that tanking or being an incompetent franchise doesn't keep getting rewarded. I personally love this idea. Even tho it means teams like us get screwed a bit, it would force management to actually put a product they'd have to sell to rookies just as much as vets.
Big problem with that concept. Certain teams wouldn't even have to be good to be able to attract players, the Knicks, dysfunction and all, being one of them.

No, I can't cosign this.

There needs to be a draft. There is a valid reason to give struggling teams a shot at improving their future, breh.

A place like Utah would be doomed.

Is that still true tho? How many times have Knicks fans been told that players don't need to come to New York to shine. We'll attract be level rookies, but the Fultz of the world would rather go to teams like Miami than the Knicks.

That's horrendous. Big markets and top teams would keep landing all the best. What I like is scrapping the lottery and setting rolling picks. Something where every team is guaranteed to pick in every slot for the next 30 years. 2018 you pick 30th, 2019 you pick 1st, 2020 you pick 20th...all the way to 2048 when you start the cycle over. That means, every team will get the option to make the first selection in the draft and there's no incentive to make your team trash or to pull a Hinkie and draft injured guys so that you can stockpile top 3 selections. It'd also help stop a team like Boston from receiving the top pick in the draft while their a top team in the East already because the Nets would know exactly what pick they're giving up. Basically, it'd make for less teams screwing themselves by giving up future picks that turn into top selections in the draft.

Disagree. Players want to win. Look at clippers with all the talent they drafted and went nowhere. Top picks don't gurantee success. Development is key. Look at kahwi. Dude looked hella average in college. Spurs developed him properly. Doubt he would have developed as well other place. For example. Knicks would traded him long ago.

I'll be very surprised if we draft him, just because of how "anti-triangle" his game is... I wouldn't be mad if he was picked though; it would actually be somewhat of an indicator that maybe, just maybe we're moving away from the triangle.

With Phil, I never know. I would've never suspected Rose would be so like by him.

Dennis Smith is growing on me. Confident in the 2nd round too.

I originally gave up on Smith bc I figured his athleticism would have him flying up draft boards during workout season. Then I thought Phil's talking points about not caring if a guy gets triple doubles or can leap out of the gym seemed particularly aimed at Smith whom I feel played lazy D periodically in every game I saw him rock. But now that he's getting called in for workouts, we may have a shot. Smith's defense is a question mark, he doesn't have the crazy size of other PG's I like in this draft...but yo...FREAK athlete and he had absolutely zero help on his team which makes his numbers all the more impressive. He did already tear an ACL though which is a bit intimidating but he recovered crazy fast and was super productive in short time compared to most. If both Frank and DS Jr are available when we pick, we really can't lose.

I am still curious as to where you would have the Knicks obtain this youth.

And disagreement with the strategy isn't really the point in my line of questioning, it's just that anti-tank crowd has made it relatively clear what they are against and yet I still don't have a clear picture of what they are for and want to see in the future.
Let me ask you a question, if the Knicks trade lee , trade melo ( or melo remains ) and KP whoever we draft Willy etc lead us to 30 win season how will you feel ?
