That's yall problem. You guys swear there wasn't any sense of community when those things were going on. First of all, Clinton Hill was never THAT wild like how you describe it. Sure...shyt had its fukk ups, but people weren't as closed off as these new folks are that rely on thinking those rapes, robberies and murders you're overrating was the end all of the neighborhood and gives them a right not to be cordial, ain't that right @GinaThatAintNoDamnPuppy!

If that was a community like you said, then the people would take ownership (at the extent of other ethnic groups) of it if they loved it so much. The war between gentrification and the old residents was determined years ago. The older residents that never owned the place they lived in are already on borrowed time. The situation isn't getting any better as time goes on, despite the crazy amount of protests. We finally seeing the fallout of short-term thinking, and the crazy thing is, it's just beginning.

yeah i think a lot of this is emotional, but i dont really see how it can be stopped or why it should be stopped, nobody's rights are being violated

the solutions that are being pushed like "save the projects" and build more affordable housing isnt really going to help in the long run

i grew up on carlton ave, right around fort greene and it hurts to say this but in the long run its better for black people to move to places we can afford to BUY, property ownership is the only real solution to this sort of thing

I had a much better meal at the French Culinary Institute. I thought Le Bernadin was way overpriced. Crowd kind of sucked too. I came away very disappointed

Same here - I had a better meal at Tout Va Bien. And it wasn't because the food was that much better either - like you said, just better crowd and the food justified the price - which was cheaper. Decor/presentation kick ass in Le Bernardine though. BTW, the restaurant crowd in Brooklyn is just so much better than the NYC crowd. It's why I prefer Brooklyn restaurants now.

Im down in NC but I had friends down on like Beach 136th, they are actually having a big party this summer for the first time in years Im sad Im missing :to:

Rockaway beach was real cool though, just hard to get to

How are you liking NC compared to NYC? I'm moving to Santa Cruz, CA once i'm done doing what I'm doing. Sorry NYC, but I need that motorcycle weather year round.

NC is pretty cool man. I've only been here for a month but the quality of life is way better and of course COL is cheaper. It's growing pretty well too and has a healthy economy all the way through the socioeconomic ladder. I haven't seen 1 homeless person. It also kind of has no sense of identity, but that is a good thing IMO... nobody has anything to prove here. Riding roads are damn nice out here too. I just got some clip ons for the bike as once the $$$ is flowing better I def wanna do track days.

Only thing I'm not feeling is the lack of diversity. Thats def what I miss about NYC. Everyone is either American white or American black... everything else is damn near "exotic". No Dominicans, no Arabs, no Koreans. And even the white people here all kind of fall in a narrow category. They make Jews look foreign. Its just kind of a downer for me as a people watcher & diversity aficionado. It is what it is though.

If you can afford Cali I would def go for it. The riding out there is :ahh:. Just be careful

Residents Talk Issues At Town Hall Meeting In Brooklyn « CBS New York

Another participant lamented the change in the character of Brooklyn as development has boomed.

“There is a Manhattanization of Brooklyn, and many don’t like the borough losing its authenticity,” the participant wrote, asking what the candidates would do to ensure the borough maintains its unique identity.

The closing of libraries in the city, and concerns about the sale of naming rights for city assets to corporations, were also among the issues addressed.

Word. I feel you on that. It's like you got to go to a specific area or whatever to see folks from different ethnicities, and even then they keep to themselves. It's not like up top where Arab nikkas would chop it up with you. It was a bit of a shock, though, especially to someone who went to a high school that was very ethnically diverse, and still counts some of those cats as real good friends.

Not going hate on section 8 housing on the beach.....but I see what your saying and my urban planning beef with Moses is when he prevented a subway connection across the Verazanno Bridge when they were proposing it...the beaches of Staten Island would look like what you are describing I think...it would be more connected to the rest of the city and region.....

I was reading up on him.....and he got a lot of his power b/se he was in charge of one of those bridge between Queens and the Bronx that became a toll bridge and raking in big bucks :birdman: ....so much so that he was providing funding for other NYC infrastructure projects at the time....with that said.....he did put in some good thoroughfares for the city...

Whenever SI gets that subway to Brooklyn, you can say RIP completely to NY :wow2:

Funny this gets mentioned because I just discovered this site:

vanshnookenraggen

Dude who runs this site did research on all of the proposed subway plans in the history of the NYC subway and created a map of what the NYC system would be based on if all the plans were approved and practicality. The NYC subway in a perfect world.

future NYC Subway | vanshnookenraggen - The final version over a google earth map. Solid line means the line already exists and the dotted line means the line does not exist, or in the case of the 2nd Ave Subway and 7 extension to the Javits Center is being built.

http://www.vanshnookenraggen.com/_index/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/futureNYC_subway_diagram2.pdf - That diagram is not of the final map. But has most of the changes, including local/express changes, new lines and line extensions.

In a nutshell here's how each line is affected.

Lines unchanged: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 (5 & 6 would run express in Bronx)

Line Extensions/Minor Changes (based on current MTA project completion): 3, D, F, Q, N, R

Major Line Changes/Extensions: 7, A, B, C, E, G, J, L, M, T, Z

New/Returning Lines, 8 (Lexington Ave Lcl), H (8th Ave Exp), O (14 st/Flatbush Line), P (2nd Ave Exp), U (2nd Ave Lcl), V (6th Ave Lcl), W (Broadway Lcl), X (Triboro Line), Y (2nd Ave Exp)

Many of the changes are made with the purpose to extend subway service to under-served areas of the city, specifically in Queens, the Bronx & Staten Island. The 7, C & H trains would extend to Jersey. The north terminal for the C and H trains is Fort Lee and the South Terminal for the 7 would be Secaucus Junction. Also, the B and X lines extend into Staten Island via Brooklyn.

Also of note, the W returns and is basically the same line as it was before, but the N and W's new northern terminal is LaGuardia Airport.

This is a pipe dream obviously, but regardless, any thoughts?
