Fine. I am just going on what I've seen and experienced after 28 years of living in NYC and growing up with African Americans. These are not "memes and stereotypes", these are 28 years of first hand observations. But if you want to discount that, whatever. I never said that was the case for ALL AAs, but some of the things I mentioned are definitely issues for many, based on my observations.

So I ask again, what are some of the things you think African Americans need to do to consolidate their power and build wealth in this country? Should that be a priority?

Typical racist qualification. "I went to a school full of blacks, believe me first hand, they're ******s." How is that any different?

To answer your benign question, what African Americans should do to consolidate wealth and power in America cannot be answered in a few short words, but it starts with political organization. Blacks should elect blacks who will serve their interests. They should only support those who's interests are 100% aligned with theirs. There are 40 million African Americans, that is more than enough to be a significant decider. That is one of the many things that should be done.

In addition to this, African Americans should form co-operatives with the few businesses they have, and use that to help consolidate whatever little power they have into a greater power.

See what kind of an adult conversation we can have when we stop talking about "Jordans" and "rims"?

Drunk white girls will freely walk around anywhere in nyc at 2am and be completely fine, I've seen it. It's not a bad thing most people are just about their own business. Act like it's offensive that people aren't afraid they're going to get robbed/raped.

NO, Brownsville//ENY was almost entirely Italian and full European immigrants before blacks moved in and it was fine. When we arrived in droves--then the MOP videos started.

I don't know where you go that from because those areas were always poor and known for crime. Have you heard of Murder Inc.?. Someone has been selling you white is right stories I see.

Murder, Inc. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

"Murder, Inc. (or Murder Incorporated or the Brownsville Boys; known in syndicate circles as The Combination) was the name given by the press to organized crime groups in the 1920s through the 1940s that resulted in hundreds of murders on behalf of the American Mafia and Jewish Mafia groups who together formed the early organized crime groups in New York and elsewhere. The name was a journalistic invention. In his biography The Valachi Papers, Mafia turncoat Joe Valachi insisted Murder, Inc. did not commit crimes for the Mafia.

Most of the killers were Jewish gangsters from the gangs of the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brownsville, East New York, and Ocean Hill. In addition to carrying out crime in New York City and acting as enforcers for New York mobster Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, they accepted murder contracts from mob bosses all around the United States

In January 1940, professional criminal and police informer Harry Rudolph was held as a material witness in the murder of 19-year-old minor gangster Alex Alpert. Alpert was shot in the back on a street corner in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn on November 25, 1933.[1][2] While in custody, Rudolph talked with Brooklyn District Attorney William O'Dwyer. With Rudolph's testimony, O'Dwyer secured first-degree murder indictments against Abe Reles, Martin Goldstein and Anthony Maffetore."

I'm not sure how we can have an adult conversation when you make personal insults & allegations of racism towards people who see things differently than you do

That would prob be a better start, if adult conversation is the real goal... but whatever

There are definitely big systematic issues African Americans still face, but there are definitely still many real cultural issues that hold African Americans back from within, be it the "no snitching" policy, the lack of emphasis on education, financial habits... if we are going to talk about how to move forward why do we have to tiptoe around internal problems?

black folks have to take ownership of this problem with gentrification in NYC. We had Harlem, Bed Stuy and we still have Jamaica...but we messed all of that up. Some parts of Queens are OK (Rosedale and St.Albans.)

The rest is almost purely unlivable. We have destroyed anything habitable where we are the majority in places like Brownsville/ENY, Stapleton, Mott Haven etc etc.

Its too damn late for any of that in NYC. Ownership in 2012 is damn near impossible with the unrealistic real estate prices. We fukked up bad and might as well start fresh in the other major metropolitan areas in the south and the west. Its gone.

Anything surrounding center city is blowing up. Give it 5 years and you won't recognize point breeze, it's getting built up very fast. Same with many parts of north Philly.
Yeah truth in that statement. Where you stay at for 890 downtown if you don't mind me asking? I might have to look into that for that price. I'm assuming Old City or No Lib.

only place i can't speak for is bronx to be honest, queens too i guess I can't say for sure. but almost all of manhattan and all of brooklyn I've seen such things going on. I mean I can't literally be everywhere but i been to parties in just about any neighborhood you can name....white girls get some weird excitement out of being in (their words) "ghetto" areas.
