I agree and disagree with the bolded. Lets not act like banks were just handing out loans for these people to buy real estate and set up businesses. I do agree that for those of us that were the majority in black neigborhoods like crown heights, and flatbush adopted the renters mentatlity and simply put up with the lack of quality of life in exchange for low rents.

Now that the chickens have come home to roost, we want to complain that the neighborhoods are improving and so are those rents. Had some of us established the ownership and community mentality, as well as PRIORITIES (less babies, bytches and benzes) we wouldnt be so easily displaced.

We had the opportunities, many of us just took it for granted and blew it.

Do you think the whites and jews would have sold us those properties?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, serious question.

So you're not even Black American. I'm speaking of matters as they pertain to the Black American community.

My family owned up there too, but they preferred to live down south so this is where we are and now own here. Not mad and not a bro.

As if the Haitian community isn't knee deep entrenched in NYC.

These are black, immigrant black, and Hispanic neighborhoods being taken over, and this thread is a discussion of it.

What you bring to this thread was discussed 93 pages ago. So you bring nothing but a bourgeoisie negro mentality that lacks the ability break down a community's problems any further than, "negro needa try harder":camby:

Much less one in a behemoth like New York City.

Yes. I personally have seen many of properties for sale within the 2000s in my area. Once when the market was booming in the early to mid 2000s and everyone wanted to cash out and then again in the late 2000s when everyone was facing a serious liquidity/cash crisis. At the root of it all, cash is king. We were buying properties and taking over neighborhoods since the 80s when white flight was in full effect so of course they would have sold those storefronts. Who do you think the Korean's and Indians purchased from?

Koreans and Asians use what we Trinidadians know as "susu" to start a business. It is basically the interest free loan that Donald Sterling spoke of the Jews having. Asians pay into it for years without taking a hand/payout. Once they do, they usually collect a large sum which allows them to purchase the lot and set up shop. We blacks who participate in susu, take it and buy cars, make down payments on homes, vacations and a bunch of other shyt that doesn't really improve our economic situation.

So when @OatmealCreamPie speaks of black banking institutions and the lack thereof I agree with that statement about us always complaining when we have had ample opportunity as of recent to make a change. I won't act like the change would be easy, as it almost never is, but true change can only become effective once we collectively are ready to embrace a cultural overhaul.

A lot of NYC is filled with :scusthov: yuppies that are stale as fukk. The renting problem is that people thought that owning is something that only white folks should do.

The renting problem probably has more to do with black folks never really having had the chance to become property owners in the post-WWII era on the same scale that whites were able to

As long as they could cash out they could care less who they sell to. Had a hard time getting financing? They'd get someone to do the mortgage for you they know.
