I'm good homie. Hipsters and coffee shops, safety>>>>>"culture", food and liquor stores, and empty lots
You say that now, Breh. Trust me, I get what you're saying, and I agree with you to a large extent, I just feel as if you're oversimplifying and massively understating the issue at hand.

I gave up the car 2 years ago since moving to Hoboken where I can simply take a 10 minute Path train(except Saturdays and Sundays at rush hour) to go to NYC. I saved hundreds of dollars in gas these past 2 years.

Thousands in gas, plus tolls, ins, Maint. I'm saving 700 x month when you annualize all those expenses. That's a better apartment.

My issue is where are all the black people gonna go when gentrification gets really bad? It seems like all of them are being flushed out of America's major cities into the suburbs while the cities themselves get whiter and/or are being pushed down to the South.

Personally, I don't want to live in the South and hate the fact that most black people are being forced to settle for less instead of going for what they really want in life and live in the places they actually want to live in. A bad economy, inflation, and a lack of jobs has led to too many black people lingering around depressed areas they seem to not be able to leave due to a lack of education/degrees/certs/etc and a criminal lack of employement opportunities.
Breh, I'm wit u

But, this is Exhibit A on the pitfalls of not building with your community, inside of your community

Really? How hard has it been to gentrify New York?

So many white folks on 125th right now :sadcam:

I'm gonna say it cause of this post.

The whiter this city gets...the more weaker and bytchmade it gets. There I said it. I ride the train and I'm mortified by how many scrawny p*ssy ass men there are that populate this city. all of these weak ass yuppie fukkers that look like they would get mollywhopped by 14 year old puerto rican girls wearing jordans their moms bought them. Don't even get me started on this disgusting breed of hipsterfied women that flock here that look like their vaginas smell of death and destruction. And the fact they flock to these men...on the train with their half-faq bullshyt with their legs crossed and a copy of eat pray love...:gag:

I've been starting to hang out with more black and brown people and more people from the hood and I'm really starting to f8cking HATE everything about these people! EVERYTHING!
They piss me off cause they're a joke...a walking talking joke. With their uptalk, effeminate voices, snarky nasal tones, obvious out of town accents, and just real weak demeanor.

America wasn't built on this..it was built off of strong men and women. Thanks Bloomy for making NYC home for weaklings and people that need their asses wiped and to be spoonfed everything even in their 20s and 30s...

The people living in the crappy(pre-gentrified) neighborhoods did nothing all these years to make their neighborhood better, now that other people are coming in and making it better, they complain.. Low income people don't even have the decency to keep their buildings clean.

And as far as culture, you have got to be kidding? like Bushwick or 125th has any kind of culture you would want to live around..

When your entire life (and your family's going back generations) has been somewhat supported or even completely funded by the government and landlords who are stuck with you because of draconian laws, this is what happens eventually. Money talks baby, everyone knows that.

Stop sitting around complaining about the day someone might come with a fist full of dollars to boot you out of your Section 8 slice of heaven. And this obviously has nothing to do with hard working hispanics & blacks who aren't about fukkery..much respect to them

As far as neighborhoods getting better services? Middle class people of any color tend to be quicker to speak up and make the system work for them. Especially if you're a homeowner--you have a vested interest in making the neighborhood look good, improving the school ratings, all these things that will pay off for you.

Whereas in my observation poverty fosters a passive mentality, a "you can't win no matter what you do" idea that can be very entrenched and difficult to shake off. Newcomers bring in their skills in mobilizing people to complain and hold politicians accountable. First thing that they do is take over the Community Board.

Also, Gentrification doesn't always involve white people. It's a class/money thing. There are many BLACKS with money returning to Harlem. Gentifiers can be of any race.

This thread reminds of me that Spike rant from months ago..dude was born in GEORGIA. Like HALF the people in NYC, he was not even born here (and that extends to many of the poor as well). Dude is a transplant that is into the arts and wears thick black frame glasses...he just beat the "whites" by a couple decades.

You know I fux with you on the comment tip...but I don't see how Black people are owed anything in this case.

At some point, you GOTTA put up or shut up.

This victimization aint gonna just answer all the problems.

I agree. I am not a fan of gentrification and I have lived in Bk for all of my life except college and a few years out west. We (blacks) just don't give a rats ass about their neighborhoods, especially cleanliness. I walk my dog in my nabe, trash everywhere in front of peoples homes. No trash cans on the corners. I go to Williamsburg or Ft Greene, trash cans and recycling cans on damn near every corner.

No victim, but you don't think that's a coincidence, do you?
I'm not saying we're owed anything, but let's not act as if there's always been a level playing field.

I agree with the fact that the playing field isn't leveled, but, I noticed the trash and constantly send tweets, posts and emails to my local politicians regarding the situation. I tried to get my neighbors on board at first but most hit me with the :ohhh::ehh: once I tried to get a group effort together to keep the area clean but once it came time to get into action most hit me with the excuses like:patrice::sas1::camby:

The ONLY ones to help me constantly harass the politicians to help clean and get garbage cans on major intersections were the :ld::smugfavre: neighbors who barely spoke but understood the need to have the neighborhood that we share cleaned.

I try to avoid that now honestly...but shyt...we gotta start somewhere. If these comments can get people to move towards the right direction (which I've BEEN trying to do) then I'm all for it B.
