They saw something that none of us did. Soon all non-rich people are going to be living in the South Bronx and in East NY. Or maybe outside of the northeast altogether.

I didn't even catch that "otherwise destructive people" thing....being removed because of gentrification.

That's actually based on the premise that gentrification can essentially create a utopia. When there's an extreme disparity between the rich and the poor crime is going to only get worse. That's just facts.

of course its feasible but i will believe it when I see it. ENY is a dump and like the Far Rockaway in that its a trillion miles from civilization. And the crime is a very serious issue too. I got people out there and I can see the potential for that are to turn into a "city" suburb, real talk. There are a TON of those 2-story two family homes out there as well (Wyona, Vermont, Bradford, etc) but many of them need to be fixed up as well. Most of the folks that own them are older blacks who got in on the action in the 50s-60s.

Still, the area needs a ton of work but has tons of potential. But that crime element has to be driven out or else thriving residential community will never work.

You may have an point, just like that gated communites near Coney Island and some parts of Queens are city "suburbs".

a lot of these areas have potential to have that suburb look/feel to them but like many areas in NY, the projects are massive and tower over everything. I'm sure housing projects were a "good idea" for like the first 2 years of their existence, but now the shyt is a complete mess. You have some developers who put up these lux apartment buildings across the street from the projects and then (with a straight face) expect you to spend $1800 on a 1 bedroom just because the shyt has a video intercom and some bootleg exposed brick.

The crime is out of control in the affordable areas in Jersey, most of the south has a higher quality of life than Newark, Paterson, Irvinton, etc.

And the "nice" part of Jersey City and Hoboken is just like Manhattan and Downtown BK. I wouldn't be surprised if the gentrification started to creep into the hood parts of Jersey City and the area around the JSQ PATH station, at least pretty soon. That area has quicker commutes to Manhattan than many areas in the outer boroughs so that can be appealing..

There's more to Jersey than Newark and Jersey City, there are several affordable areas

But are they safe though? If you don't mind, could you post some of the affordable areas? :lupe:

And are they reasonably close to NY? Like it only takes a hour and a half at most to get to Manhattan on some NJ Transit service.

Some people live in PA off of I-78 and commute to the city daily :wow:

Normal middle class.

within an hr and a half commute:

most of Bergen County, western Essex County, and northern Hudson County
Towns of Union, Woodbridge, Piscataway, Edison, Metuchen, The Brunswicks, and the towns along the Raritan Valley Line

there's plenty others but most of nj is small suburban towns not cities like Newark or Ivrington and a lot of them have direct access to Midtown
