Miami. But where are these new New Yorkers working?
All the service industry folks will come from Jersey and be on their way once their shift ends. That's how it is out here where I'm at, all the Black folks work for the university hospital but after about 8pm you don't see them around unless they are waiting for the bus to go home. I mean you don't even see these folks in the Starbucks, the supermarkets (unless they work there), or even the bars. I fully expect that to happen in NYC,a lot of the early 20-mid 30's Black/Latino young folks making less than 40k who have been able to get by with roommates will not be able to stick around because white hipsters in that age range are coming for the apartments they usually stay in.
sounds like kentuckyI can't believe I read "Pittsburgh" and "exciting" in the same space.
I moved out because I was bored to tears living there.
People from New York think Pittsburgh is like Philadelphia and when I tell them that they aren't they don't know how to react. As if PA is all the same.
fukk PA. One of the the worst states ever! I hate everything about it. The ignorant people, the lack of progress, the depressing weather, the small corrupt politics, the overabundance of police forces (if you're not dealing with city cops, you're dealing with township cops, then county cops, college cops, state cops, etc.), the hicks, the isolated atmosphere, the dirtiness, the roads that are cracking and falling apart...it will NEVER change cause it's a commowealth.
Cuts down on cost. Here's the thing I noticed, the white folks aren't moving in these apts solo. They either do the roommate thing or its a couple moving in.
I fully expect the Black NYC community to look more like the DMV Black community in the future, in which class lines are clearly drawn and the Black experience for those with college education is substantially different from those who are blue collar.
I firmly stated I wouldn't fck w any of those types..... but my city is also being gentrified... in my particular area nikkas are scarce and black bishes are on the endangered list.... when it used to be mostly black. So fck it. asian and white girls joggin by like 'hey' all friendly n shyt.... give the pus up faster than professional black women, etc.
Cuts down on cost.
Western PA is 12% minorities.
The under 30 crowd PERIOD is pretty non-existent there. People from Pittsburgh move out around 21 for greener pastures.
The last time I was there in December, the only people around my age I saw were college students. Pittsburgh's composed of really young people and really old people...the death rate exceeds the birth rate.
An anytime there's something black to do, it never lasts. The Shadow Lounge was a black owned business/concert venue that unofficially spearheaded the gentrification of East Liberty in my opinion back in 2000. It just closed this year. Apparently they were looking for a new venue to buy instead of lease, but the close came after several complaints about noise from residents. Honestly, Pittsburgh is just really racist.
And Pittsburgh nightlife is absolutely horrible.
NY Gentrification -
It is really bitter sweet for me. I grew up in 90's Fort Greene, so I remember the bad times. I also remember the culture and atmosphere it had especially Myrtle Ave and Dekalb Ave going into Clinton Hills/Bed Stuy.
Now, the influx of YWA (Young White Americans) has changed everything about the community. I mean... it is cool to see the development, the new buildings, the artistic atmosphere, safety and cleaner however, nothing gets under my skin more than people who recently moved there scoffing at me when I'm walking to go visit my parents like I shouldn't be there. It sucks also because rent is so high, me starting my own family, Wife, 3yr old son & 1 expecting son, it would be impossible for me to move back into the community.
The sad part? As a collective, the urban community just didn't care about how own neighborhood. We didn't keep it clean and we didn't respect it.
The most jarring experience though:
I'm living in Jamaica Queens now. So after work, I switch out of my suit at my parent's place. I get on the A train at Jay St...
And what used to be 99% Black people on the A train going towards Broadway Junction... it is about 45% YWA...
Black folks should have "mini-Harlem Renaissances" in every major city at the point ....... there is an area in Third Ward here in Houston along Dowling Street .... it is such an obvious corridor for Black folks to be developing their own businesses and housing and shyt .. right now its full of clubs, torn down buildings, a few eateries here and there, and vacant lots ....and thats cool...but it could really be enhanced if more younger professional blacks or blacks in general with money reinvested ........ it is southeast of downtown , and there are clear signs of gentrification of YWA variety popping up .... that's doesn't bother me... just the fact that this area could truly be a true AA formidable destination ...... developing is gradually coming here .... but clearly its not going look like the majority of folks currently living here ....
I firmly stated I wouldn't fck w any of those types..... but my city is also being gentrified... in my particular area nikkas are scarce and black bishes are on the endangered list.... when it used to be mostly black.
