" Since the crisis, almost half of all new jobs generated in the city and the broader tri-state region pay less than $14 an hour, according to the economic data firm, EMSI. The three fastest-growing jobs — food preparation, health care support and personal care, which together account for almost half of all new jobs added in the tri-state region since 2009 — pay on average less than $12 an hour. A quarter of all adult workers in Brooklyn and 20% in the Bronx have a job that pays less than $10 an hour."

I can totally see this city becoming a city for only useless prissy pissy uber rich men and women come 2030.

I mean shyt...now you're either really rich here or you're splitting a 4 bedroom apartment between 8 people and "slumming it". fukk.

All the long time residents and hard working communities being pushed out to make way for the useless stupid little kiddies of the world (and their trust funds) that have no purpose but to pollute the world with half-assed fashion, instagram feeds of vegan food, horrible music, and other tripe.

But ain't that what Bloomberg wants? You've heard him talk about making New York into a "luxury city". That's what I take from it.

Real talk though...

Do you ever catch a glimpse of some of these people walking through Brooklyn and think to yourself "what the fukk are you doing here???????"

Some of these transplants (granted I'm one) really just see New York as some leisure stroll.

In the Silver Lining
The poor will live in Jersey, if they can get the South Bronx well then nothing is off limits. The days of being single and making around 70k and aspiring to own will soon be over.

Nah............................once them super high speed trains get popping .... Philadelphia will be the new New Jersey ...... or either folks going will be coming in on them subterranean trains like the newest Total Recall movie ... :smugfavre:

:obama::myman: The Real Estate companies be on that grind out here, and with exception of the slumlords that be fukking over the kids from Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, folks I've met have nothing but good things to say about the r.e. companies. There is an area called East Liberty out here that is so gentrification ready :ohlawd::noah: as my sister stated when we drove past the area "Yeah this area won't look the same when you graduate" :mjpls::mjpls:.

Ahh East Liberty...

I used to live in Pittsburgh a block away from East Liberty in Friendship. The gentrification has already been happening since 2000.

I read a thread on the Pittsburgh City Data forum yesterday and it's basically just late 30-to 40 something white people just waiting for all of the black folks to move out or kill each other to they can build 3 more Starbucks, 2 more yoga studios, and an American Apparel.

I just don't think the gentrification in East Liberty will go over too well. That's been a historically stratified and segregated part of the city for years. And seriously, why would ANYONE with half a brain move to an era that's literally a nice city suburb (Shadyside/Friendship) on one side and the hood (there used to be skyrise housing projects that were torn down in 2002/2003) on the other?

Pittsburgh is gentrifying for sure... Exciting town. I don't think there's a ton going on in Harrisburg, at least not that I've heard of... Haven't been there in years

I'm involved in a big project in trenton, nj that will jumpstart gentrification there ... Hopefully starting work before years end

I'm interested in Allentown... Some serious potential there

I can't believe I read "Pittsburgh" and "exciting" in the same space.

I moved out because I was bored to tears living there.

People from New York think Pittsburgh is like Philadelphia and when I tell them that they aren't they don't know how to react. As if PA is all the same.

fukk PA. One of the the worst states ever! I hate everything about it. The ignorant people, the lack of progress, the depressing weather, the small corrupt politics, the overabundance of police forces (if you're not dealing with city cops, you're dealing with township cops, then county cops, college cops, state cops, etc.), the hicks, the isolated atmosphere, the dirtiness, the roads that are cracking and falling apart...it will NEVER change cause it's a commowealth.

:deadmanny:

They are fixing the bridge that connects East Liberty and Shadyside, the upperclassmen tried to convince us to move out there because its packed with grad students but when I walked down there :mjpls::mjpls: and the rent is $400-$500 cheaper in North Oakland. Hey the hipsters moved around the hood in Brooklyn, no reason they can't do it out here in Pittsburgh where companies like Walnut Capital are savvy as fukk and are actually in good graces with the more liberal white folks. I think R.E. out here will actually have an easier time pulling it off than the companies that first ventured into BK.

Yeah it's not exciting if you are a minority but I can understand why white folks like it here so much, the Black professional under 30 crowd is pretty much non-existent here. Which is odd because there are so many schools out here and there has to be atleast a 4-6% Black student population at each school. When I asked Black people about nice "Black" spots they all advised me to just "party with the White folks" :russ:

Yea...the main selling point is that Pittsburgh is affordable. I agree. When I moved back there from Ohio, I lived in South Oakland, then the South Side, then Friendship. I never paid more than $500 dollars a month to live in each spot and they were great places to live.

It can be done. No one wanted to move Brooklyn 10-15 years ago...now people are moving out here in droves. I see uhaul trucks in Bushwick damn near everyday.

Western PA is 12% minorities.

The under 30 crowd PERIOD is pretty non-existent there. People from Pittsburgh move out around 21 for greener pastures.

The last time I was there in December, the only people around my age I saw were college students. Pittsburgh's composed of really young people and really old people...the death rate exceeds the birth rate.

An anytime there's something black to do, it never lasts. The Shadow Lounge was a black owned business/concert venue that unofficially spearheaded the gentrification of East Liberty in my opinion back in 2000. It just closed this year. Apparently they were looking for a new venue to buy instead of lease, but the close came after several complaints about noise from residents. Honestly, Pittsburgh is just really racist.

And Pittsburgh nightlife is absolutely horrible.
