She could have gotten into journalism or whatever the hell it was she wanted to do. The problem is she didn't start at the goal and work backwards from there. I'm pretty sure I told you the same thing several months ago. Figure out what you want to do, then figure out what leads into that, then what leads into that, and so on until you get to your current situation.

People don't get the scholarships because they don't apply for them. People go for FAFSA and call it a day. Talmbout I didn't get any grants so I just took out loans. The majority of scholarships just want a 500 word essay. Put the time in, write a good one, you can keep reusing that work for the next scholarship. We had kids walking out of high school with enough scholarships it was if they had a full ride. Even having 50% paid for is better than nothing :comeon:.
People are lazy! They want the easiest route and mad at the consequence.

It’s not in the article but I found her LinkedIn. She has her masters degree in Organizational leadership

https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachel-bevel-42b40518a/

It sounds like she can get into HR with those degrees. Also, a lot of people make a decent living writing articles. She could’ve done that from home until she either made a name for herself or gained steady clients.

Even with her English degree, the bulk of their financial burden is on the husband.

What’s a decent amount? And where do you find these websites to write articles for?

fukked up. I would encourage everyone to listen to that Dave Ramsey call in show.

Its like hundreds of calls like this of folks drowning in student loan debt.

Couple of things from what I have seen in my lifetime. If you are going to try and go to school to be a doctor or dentist. Do not get a degree in biology. You are just as likely to get into medical school with a stem degree. But the versatility of a stem degree is if you can't get into medical school or pass the medical tests. You can use the stem degree to get a high paying job.

Let me say this slowly. A Biology degree is a dime a dozen and its hard to make a career out of just having biology degree. Too many folks have gotten biology degrees and weren't able to get into medical school or make it in medical school. Then they out here with a biology degree and can't get a job. Plus got a shyt load of loans.

Another thing do not go into debt without knowing how much you will get paid for your degree when coming out. So don't go into a field which is only going to pay you at the most 30k a year for the next 10 years. But your degree is gonna cost you 100k. That shyt is hustling backwards.

Seen too many college students men and especially women. Studying a field and when you ask them what is the starting salary or median salary for someone with that degree they can't answer the question.

If you want that degree so bad. Go to a small public college that will cost you 40k to get that degree instead of 100k.

Hate to burst people bubbles but this ain't 1970. A degree aint gonna cost you 3k nor will your grants cover everything. They have turned higher education into big business since the 80s. So you as a student need to look at college as a business transaction first. Its about picking the right field and college that will give you a good return on your investment

Trust me.....if you do not choose wisely you will be played.

Hopefully we will be the last generation to fall prey to the student loan scam this country has been running the last 30 years. The black community in America would be in much better shape right now if we focused more on trades.

But who says they’ll chose your essay out of the hundred other kids that applied for the exact same scholarship :gucci:

The black community has shifted away from jobs that sustained the black middle class for generations

I’m talking government clerks, public transit operators, post office, factory jobs, truck drivers, Teamsters etc

Those jobs were coveted back in the day. You got a job with the city picking up trash or mailman you were set for life. shyt like that is looked down upon in the black community today.

My grandpa worked at the post office 35 years put all my aunts through college. Bought property Traveled the world after he retired.

Grandma still has his pension and benefits a decade after he passed

This is what happens when children have lifetime-spanning business decisions flung at them with no guidance.

And it's no accident.
Basically. This all began when they were in the school yards as children. Her, a product of neglect from broken homes. Him, obviously from a better situation but never learned the fundamentals at home to succeed in what he was good at, clearly suffering from a lack of being able to identify who he is. Both searching for an identity that clearly isn’t them. Her comments about social media and a desire for a life that was never hers leads me to believe that this couple is full on delusional and have not grasped the reality of who they are.

I tell my son, you have to be who you are. Find out who you are and then go be the best version of it. You can’t be 6 feet tall and try to play a power forwards game.
