The black community has shifted away from jobs that sustained the black middle class for generations

I’m talking government clerks, public transit operators, post office, factory jobs, truck drivers, Teamsters etc

Those jobs were coveted back in the day. You got a job with the city picking up trash or mailman you were set for life. shyt like that is looked down upon in the black community today.

My grandpa worked at the post office 35 years put all my aunts through college. Bought property Traveled the world after he retired.

Grandma still has his pension and benefits a decade after he passed

Yep my auntie the same way. She worked at the post office from 18 to 50 and retired. She is 77 now been chilling with that fat pension for 27 years.

When I graduated from college she tried to talk to me about getting a government gig. I was caught up on how little they were paying. My auntie kept hounding me to not worry about that because in 2 or 3 years they would bump me up to similar pay in the private sector.

Like all young folks I was caught up in the money and went to the private sector. Not realizing the pension benefits, cheaper health benefits and job security that the government jobs provided.

Now that I am older and look back that she was right cause with the governor jobs I would have been straight with that pension and job security. Or as my auntie said work smart not hard.

Have 700k in debt and have little to no wealth to show for it....

Its fukked up man and sad. The crazy thing is folks hate to face debt. Most folks in college don't even know how much they owe.

Then the interest on those loans when they graduate are crazy.

I have bachelors and an MBA and it came to just over 100K. These nikkas ain't doing something right. Was probably taking a lot of it to just live on as well.

Yep but its also what college they went to. plus folks be taking these private loans and parent plus loans that have fukked up interest. And the interest keeps adding while in school.

Never ever take out a private bank loan for college!

:trash: what is the point of this article and why are you giving these lames attention?

Even after all that decision making based off of their ego that got them in that shyt, she still refuses to learn her lesson. That's the problem with this generation. Too much ego to the point where they do dumb shyt and not enough humility to become wise. The system is the system. Just shallow your pride, admit you fukked up and work your way out of it like how an adult would. Stop asking for sympathy for something you created and signed up for. We all make mistakes, it's how we handle them that determines if you are an adult or a kid.

Why y’all nikkas in here being judgemental? :francis:

Y’all know if they were white this wouldn’t even be an issue because Breh would be a dentist dispite failing the enterance exam 4 times and his wife would be a school prinicipal off an English degree.. they would’ve have these financial issues

You're making some wild assumptions here. There are any number of people born into families with options and they're bored out of their minds. The suicide rate is the highest it's been since the 1950s, addiction rates are off the charts. That's not accidental either.

Your support system primarily determines how many bad choices you can make and still recover, followed by your own personal gifts for talking with people and networking. There are any number of people who have started multiple businesses that have all failed, and still have access to capital to try again. If you don't have those, you can't afford mistakes. One misstep and you're in debt slavery. Multiple missteps and you're now a slave to any number of addictions trying to cope with earlier missteps. And it compounds down the line.

Life is always better when you have options. If you're not born into them, your first task is learning how to create them for yourself...and that ain't easy when you don't have people around you to teach it, or to emulate and just soak up game.

Either way, the world ain't gonna stop whatever your personal circumstances are, so you'd better get to it.

This is what happens when you have no hustle in you

I more so think this is what happens when you have no backup plan.

That all or nothing stuff does not work. Too much round hole in square peg mentality.

I believe generations x, millennials and z are not as versatile as their parents and grandparents when it comes to understanding that a goal may not be attainable. So there is a need to change gears.

Its just how these generations were babied growing up...IMO.

He should have went to the military. They would have payed off some of his debt and put him through dental school while getting a crib too. They'll be okay if they balance right but they'll be the type to have that shyt fall off they credit in 30+ years.

Student loans never fall off your credit score. Basically its 3 ways to get rid of them. Pay them off, have them forgiven or die....period thats it.
