Most Black folks, 1st gen college students have no clue of the world they are going into.

Yeah many don't know and 1st generation college students in general.

The schools actually bank on this. Their goal is to keep you in school long enough to get as much money as they can from the government. So either you graduate, drop out or lose financial aid because you ran out of hours.

Second all americans should care about folks like this in student loan debt. The reason is a good portion of those loans are not private. Which means they are government. Which means they are tax payers money.

We as tax payers are funding folks to go to college. Many of the folks for whatever reason will never be able to pay these loans back. This is a serious crisis.

:umad: fukk that college shyt breh. I went when I was 20 and dropped out owing 8k, went into default for not making payments. I paid it off last year and am making 26/hr and moving up. A lot of my old friends who went to college struggle to find work, I feel for them but that college life is a scam with the debt that's involved

So how can a doctor or lawyer become doctors or lawyers without college sir?

First off that's a good looking family, lil breh is a member of #dimplegang and that baby is cute as hell.

Back to the matter at hand, the first generational curse is real. She did no research into the school at all just showed up there for an English degree with hopes to go into a floundering industry :francis:. There needs to be more financial education bc ppl seem to take any and all loans they are eligible for :francis:

Buddy should have linked with asda and a black student or professional dental organization bc there are resources that would have helped him study for that test and get into school on time

For profit university MBA wtf:mindblown:. How are people still falling for these scams

Disappointing story and these are the Sanders supporters :mjlol:. That fukking fraud selling more dreams :deadmanny:

This is a horrendous bullshyt topic..
Which isn't worthy of anyone's consideration

But I did want to echo something @ab.aspectus said

It's not the degree, it's the person with the degree
And that person's overall skill to navigate a situation

You can't just ignore reality
If you want to be a meteorologist..

"I’d scroll down my social media timeline and compare myself to others. They appeared to be traveling, shopping and building perfect homes. On the other side of the screen, I was pregnant, full of dreams and broke. I later enrolled in school for my master’s degree to fill an emotional void. A decision that cost me $64,595.44. After three years of rejections, Otis gave up on being a dentist, and he earned an MBA in health administration for a whopping $101,000. Whew, I’m out of breath typing about it! Our problem was that we were trying to fit into a life that I don’t believe was designed for us."

:snooze:
You know what’s funny about this. Before I got hired as a financial counselor they invited me to a second interview and gave me a scenario where I had to give financial advise to someone.

The scenario was very identical to this.

Exactly. Like naaah bytch. You finna pay back them student loans like I had to pay back mine. Putting more time into looking for “get out of jail free” cards then for researching your field or looking for jobs.

The black community has shifted away from jobs that sustained the black middle class for generations

I’m talking government clerks, public transit operators, post office, factory jobs, truck drivers, Teamsters etc

Those jobs were coveted back in the day. You got a job with the city picking up trash or mailman you were set for life. shyt like that is looked down upon in the black community today.

My grandpa worked at the post office 35 years put all my aunts through college. Bought property Traveled the world after he retired.

Grandma still has his pension and benefits a decade after he passed

Is it really? Because I still see black people out here more than willing applying to be train Conductors, garbage men, mail men and bus operators.

Also a lot of you people who aren’t taking law or medicine need to stop assuming that a top college is the only solution.

My homegirl is a VP at Goldman Sachs and she attended Baruch College.

Baruch College is part of CUNY so it’s a city college but they are known for their top notch business program.

She got a internship easy and now is VP.

Since her school was part of CUNY her tuition was cheap and it’s already paid off.

:yeshrug:

Baruch is the GOAT cheat code for Business majors.

Your girl Asian?

Na, you need at least an associate's. A bachelor's depends on the type of major. Make sure you're choosing a versatile major instead of a specific major like business instead of psychology or science.
