If you have to build a team specifically around masking a players deficiencies just for the team to succeed and have success, then he's not a #1 option. Which is exactly why I say that he needs to become at least average to above average on defense.

AI, Dwight, Shaq,Bron, Steph, Giannis and other #1 options have had coaches build around their deficiencies. There is no such thing as a perfect player besides MJ & even then Phil & the Bulls FO brought in players that did what he couldn’t do.

All of those players you mentioned got heat and criticism for their deficiencies and told to improve on them or at least become average at it. Shaq would get shyt all the time for his poor free throw shooting and told to improve on it. Giannis and Bron did as well for their free throw shooting and shooting in general clutch in season. They both improved on it and become just average enough to not be a complete liability on the floor.
Nikka's on this site have no problem with going at Dame and other players for their deficiencies, but it's an issue when we mention it with Trey Young. Dudes be biased as hell without even realizing it

Sharief Cooper has 20 pounds on Trae and one of the reasons he fall so far in the draft is because he’s undersized.
no Hawks fan will argue about Traes defense. Only so much he can do with his size but we’ll take his offensive production to offset that. Coaches just need to scheme for it and Trae along with everyone else needs to put out better effort on defense
Chris Paul is just as small in size and stature as Trey Young yet he's a 9 time All Defensive Player, so that excuse doesn't count. John Stockton as well was a pretty good defensive player in spite of his size.
You can scheme to try and hide someone's deficiencies all you want, but at some point it's on that player to improve on it so it's not easily exploited by other teams.
