I got picked on for "acting white" around that age. Later I used to watch a lot of the History Channel cuz that shyt fascinated me, then some dudes on my AAU basketball team started making fun of me for watching more History Channel than BET. I stopped watching the channel after that for a long time. Damn, peer pressure was crazy, I wish I had stood up to them 
There's nothing wrong with being smart. Hell, I'd imagine the pressure is worse for girls because so many people are demanding they act a certain way. The other chicks might not hang with them if they ain't doing the same shyt, the dudes won't be hollering if they don't look a certain way, grandma gonna be complainin if they don't act a certain way, etc.
It's even worse with social media today, gotdamn. My girl cousin is 14 and is already 6'1. She runs track but doesn't do too well in school. I try to tell her to get serious (and play basketball lol) but she hangs with her friends all day. They go around dressing all loose and looking to fukk. At 14. Damn...
