i hate this kind of point in particular though.... the lack of casualties doesn't mean that things are quiet. or security isn't absolutely fukking critical. it means that we got so damned good at nipping shyt in the bud that people could get comfortable - and that clearly translated to complacency leading to this shytshow where people don't even know if they can get to the airport. or in many cases where people even are.

that's exactly what this clusterfukk is right now. its not a plan, its hoping and wishing that planes don't get shot down at the last main choke point into and out of afghanistan. its a LOT easier to ensure safety and make demands when you're still the dominant force in the area.

Nah, it means the Taliban ended their fighting ire against the US and just kept fighting the Afghan government and ISIS-K in the countryside. The Doha agreement was kept to. They didn't target Americans.

There's no coincidence that the lack of U.S. causalities or attacks since the Doha talks is correlated to the increased Taliban-US dialogue with the Trump admin and now the Biden admin.

the taliban up in the videos had been dialing their fukkery back for years even before the last elections to play nice so that the US would pack up and leave sooner - and at the same time the US has done all sorts of things to reduce the chances of soldiers getting killed. reduced if not wiped all ground resupply stuff, no more presence patrol bullshyt, stopped training and cohabitating with ANA, pulling away from the biggest hotspots, etc. not even counting all the ways ppl generally got better at protecting themselves over the years.
