:ohhh:

They did a "Mufasa" Prequel on the 30th Anniversary of the original coming off the Remake that did 1.6 Billion. Beyonce and Blu Ivy are in it and it's dropping Christmas? Yeah this is about to clean up heavy. Don't be shocked if this wins the Box Office this year. "Lion King" is a damn juggernaut film that attracts all ages and races. As for the trailer, it looked pretty good. The Effects have gotten even better with those photo-realistic animals.

I don't think this is gonna do better than Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, Joker 2, or Deadpool 3.

The Lion King has only been in the theater 2 times. 94 made over a Billion, 2019 made 1.6 Billion. That's 2.7 Billion between two films. "Inside Out" part 1 did not make a Billion plus it's in a crowded summer. "Despicable Me 4" will do well but will also have to deal with summer competition. "Deadpool 3" and "Joker" are both R-rated and will not attract the families that "The Lion King" will. Plus it's opening Christmas and will clean up for New Years too. Again this is a movie that attracts all races and groups.

I mean you can up this at the beginning of next year but there's no indication that anyone is checking for Mufasa like that. They can't bank on high nostalgia for this one. Despicable Me is gonna do close to or over a Billy and Deadpool and Joker are gonna get close to or over 800 mill.

If Mufasa gets close to 800 mill, like the cacs say, I'll eat my hat.

The thing is "The Lion King" is bigger Worldwide than those films. The "Lion King " in 2019 made 1.1 Billion just overseas. "Oppenhemier" just did 950 Million as an R-rated Drama. This is a family film opening in the heart of Christmas and New Years. I'm thinking it has a chance at "Super Mario" numbers. Now "Sonic 3" is scheduled to open that day but I think they end up moving to next year. Yes it's Post Pandemic and people aren't going to the theater as much so it's probably not going to make 1.6 Billion again. But don't be surprised by 1.1-1.3 Billion because Overseas will still do gangbusters.

All those films you mentioned are going to do well but the Summer is a bloodbath and films sort of eat each other. "Joker" part 1 did a Billion but R-rated films have a ceiling because you can't get a family audience. So "Joker 2" and "Deadpool 3" will have a ceiling. "Inside out" and "Desciple Me 4" will be it's competition because those are family films too but again Summer will hurt both from fighting other Blockbusters. You say "Nobody checking for Mufasa". Based on what? The "Lion King" is a franchise that has proven to be what's called a 4-Quadrant Blockbuster which again attracts all races, ages and groups.

All of Disney's live action sequels do worse than the original because no one is checking for their fan fiction ass sequels. Alice 2 and Maleficent 2 did not do nearly as well as the originals.

This isn't gonna be some cultural phenomenon that Oppenheimer was. Especially since that came from one the top box office directors and got memed with a lesser movie starring a top actress. It also had continued legs just for being excellent.

The first movie did big because people were nostalgic for the OG. But many were disappointed in the uncanny valley and emptiness of it. I'm sure there's gonna be tons of people checking for it but the trailer itself has more down votes than up votes on YouTube lol. Honestly, it might do a little better than Moana 2 which is out around the same time but it'll be close.

You know damn well this ain't finna be well written :mjlol:

It'd be nice, but Disney has been horrible with their remakes and sequels to classic franchises. I don't expect this to be much different :manny:
For real :russ: they didn’t give a fukk even during their Reinaissance era

Ironically, the only ones I remember getting love were Lion King 1 1/2 and Lion King 2. Never seen them though.

EDIT: Forgot about Return of Jafar. But even then it had the same style as the Aladdin TV show’s animation. Low budget release, looked more like a special episode

Yes "Alice 1" did a Billion and the sequel underperformed but that was because Johnny Depp was going through several controversies when "Alice 2" dropped, even "Pirates 5" that year grossed less than "Pirates 4". "Maleficent" was never the blockbuster "The Lion King" was. So neither of those comparisons work. "Aquaman" and "The Marvels" were sequels that failed to live up to their Billion Dollar processors but again those were comic book films and comic book movies are going through audience fatigue. There is no "Lion King" fatigue because the franchise doesn't release films very often on the Big Screen. That's 2 movies in 30 years. "The Lion King" was the most dominate remake. It grossed way more than "Beauty and the Beast, Alice, Maleficent, Aladdin, Jungle Book". It's the highest grossing Animated Film of all Time. When the 1st Dropped in 94, it became the highest grossing animated film of all time.

Again 2 for 2. So now the 3rd film comes along and nobody is gonna care? Doubt it. Also it is overblown that people "Hated" the remake. Families were going over and over again that's why it did 1.6 Billion. Kids loved it. It was huge on streaming and home video too just like the original was. It was mostly my generation mad that it wasn't "Animated" traditionally like the 94 version. Also "Little Mermaid" got a lot of "Youtube" hate and still did over 500 Million WW. "Moana" is nowhere near The Lion King. This isn't about personal feelings. The facts are the Lion King is a much bigger property than the movies you are saying will do better than. Also the trailer having down votes means nothing. There's a bunch of lowlife grown men who hate on everything Disney does and cry about movies that are marketed to children and little girls. They do not represent the general public who will buying those tickets on Christmas. We shall see in December when those numbers drops. I'm telling you it will have all the headlines of a huge opening on Christmas week.

Im there day 1 with my family

Man it's Christmas weekend, Families are going to be flocking to this like Bees on Honey. It's a lock this will dominate the family audience. Which means 4-5 tickets a pop per family which is why The Lion King 94 and 2019 broke records.

The Lion King didn't do that well in the states. It only did like 500M in the states, and had like a 70% drop in the second week. It also was like the 3rd or 4th one, and since then, people have soured on them. You also have to take account that it's Mufasa and not Simba.

Actually those "Lion King" sequels were straight to video and basically made for television. Only two Lion King movies came out in the theaters and both broke records. "Didn't do well in the States"? How, 500 Million was great and made it the #2 highest grossing Domestic movie in 2019 behind "Endgame"
Highest-grossing films of 2019

RankTitleDistributorDomestic gross
1Avengers: EndgameDisney$858,373,000
2The Lion King$543,638,043
3Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker$515,202,542
4Frozen II$477,373,578
5Toy Story 4$434,038,008
6Captain Marvel$426,829,839
7Spider-Man: Far From HomeSony$390,532,085
8AladdinDisney$355,559,216
9JokerWarner Bros.$335,477,657
10Jumanji: The Next LevelSony$320,314,960

So in a head to head, "The Lion King" did better domestically than "Star Wars", "Frozen II", "Toy Story 4", "Captain Marvel", "Spider-Man", "Aladdin", "Joker" and "Jumanji" in the same year. I think people are underestimating how Big this movie franchise is. They did the same with "Avatar 2" talking about "Nobody cares about Avatar", it has no "Cultural Impact" only for the sequel to do gangbusters and 2.3 Billion (Avatar 2 dropped domestically but still did great OS. I could see Mufasa dropping domestically 400-450 but still have a great OS to take it over a Billion). Also Mufasa is a very popular character thanks to James Earl Jones. Simba will still be in the movie too.
