He's an ideal father figure that dies to save his son contributing to his son's story arc. He was never supposed to be a fully fleshed out character with his own story arc. He's a prop in his son's development for the audience to project positive fatherhood on.We know he dies sacrificing his son...so what do we need to seem him as a little kid or whatever?
You are really overthinking this. This isn’t GOT, the wire or breaking bad. It’s a highly successful kids franchise where kids and families will gladly go see more adventures about their favorite charactersIt just seems like either Disney is admitting the Lion King 2 and The Lion Guard were mistake or they're afraid to go forward here. We don't need any character development on Mufasa. Hell any development on him will assault the character he was known as. He's not Jimmy McGill where you sit back and go he's interesting how did he become so sleazy? Mufasa is supposed to be almost perfect and they'll cheapen that for a prequel.

This obsession with making prequels is disturbing. I get it execs sit back and ask how can we make something that ties into a franchise and grabs it's audience's attention. Their solution frequently seems to be let's make a prequel. If we're being real most prequels are just filler content to pad out a backstory in a cash grab. The beginning is set and the end is set so they just pad it with meaningless content that either does nothing or answers questions most people don't care about the answers to because they know how it ends anyway.
I mean it was already explained in the first film why they grew apart and why he had smoke for the entire familySo you're not interested in how him and Scar grew apart
