He's an ideal father figure that dies to save his son contributing to his son's story arc. He was never supposed to be a fully fleshed out character with his own story arc. He's a prop in his son's development for the audience to project positive fatherhood on.

This obsession with making prequels is disturbing. I get it execs sit back and ask how can we make something that ties into a franchise and grabs it's audience's attention. Their solution frequently seems to be let's make a prequel. If we're being real most prequels are just filler content to pad out a backstory in a cash grab. The beginning is set and the end is set so they just pad it with meaningless content that either does nothing or answers questions most people don't care about the answers to because they know how it ends anyway.

It just seems like either Disney is admitting the Lion King 2 and The Lion Guard were mistake or they're afraid to go forward here. We don't need any character development on Mufasa. Hell any development on him will assault the character he was known as. He's not Jimmy McGill where you sit back and go he's interesting how did he become so sleazy? Mufasa is supposed to be almost perfect and they'll cheapen that for a prequel.
You are really overthinking this. This isn’t GOT, the wire or breaking bad. It’s a highly successful kids franchise where kids and families will gladly go see more adventures about their favorite characters

Lol @ character development and assaulting the character of a talking cartoon lion :russ:

This lazy style of creativity was copied from George Lucas and the prequels, however Lucas had a complete idea on how to go about the PT, modern writers don't. Movie companies are afraid to push a story forward with a sequel but would rather do prequels on minor characters or characters we already know their resulting fate.

Why not Fast and the Furious: Learner's Permit? Little Mermaid: Ursala Year One? Saw: The Beginning Blade? Blade: The Early Years? Jurassic Park: The Lab?

shyt...we gettin an Orphan prequel even though we knew she killed her whole family with the details from Psychologist's testimony.

lmao I really hate to tell everyone in here that they do not give a any f's about the character and history of the character.
this is really because they just want a successful($$$) movie for the year
lion king 2 would make sense except you need to get Beyonce back which could be done but she's going to ask for more money.
she really got paid for that first one in fact I swear she was trying to make it her black panther. She got the voice of Nala, her own song, a whole album, and her own disney special out of it :dead:
if they wanted her to do the sequel what do you think she's asking for this time?
you could make a whole new movie with scar's family before they meet Simba's daughter from the lion king 2 but then not enough people will care
Timon and Pumba cannot hold a film on their own.
it makes the most financial sense to make a movie about Mufasa because people know him and you essentially get the same character moments with less money

Only way this tanks is if there's a blow out marketed movie this holiday. Could be Sonic 3 once Carrey/Keanu shows up. But yeah, this aint gonna be nothing but something to sit in Dolby Cinema for a few hours. Soundtrack will prob be better than the first which was a rehash. No ways its pushing past 1billion like the first.
