My job is fully remote and financially it wouldn't be a problem. My current home lists for over $835K, so I'd be heading out there with a nice chunk of change once it sells.
You'll be alright, and like others said the weather over there is amazing. You should go visit the city for a week though.

I'm pretty familiar with parts of SD and Orange County. I've visited probably a good 10-12 times over the years and have friends in Chula Vista and Huntington Beach.

Funny enough, I actually just booked a flight last night for me and my kid for August, so aside from the fun and leisurely shyt, I do plan on driving through some neighborhoods I've been looking at houses on Zillow. I may pop in for a walk-through too, just to get an idea of what kind of housing you can expect for your $.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
As with any major life-altering decision I make, I figured I'd consult the brehs...

Long story short, I'm planning a move to San Diego in the next 2-3 years to coincide with my kid graduating HS.

I'd be looking to either rent for the first year or purchase a home straight away (budget around $600-700K) and was curious if anyone had any advice on neighborhoods to avoid and others to pinpoint? I've been looking a lot at Oceanside, Pacific Beach, Carlsbad and Encinitas so was curious if anyone on the board lived in the area and could provide some insight.

I've been told to avoid Imperial Beach, Oak Park and National City.

fukk buying a house in San Diego. If you don’t mind the commute, but a house in Rosario Beach :ehh:

Good luck on your move.

I'd recommend NOT looking at Pacific Beach. A whole lot of fukkery goes on there. You have your tweakers, annoyingly drunk and stoned college kids, and hobos who will do all types of nasty shyt right in front of your house. And they are charging way too much to live in what will eventually be Venice Beach South.

Appreciate the input, breh.

Although I want to be a short drive from some sort of nightlife/brewery/restaurant scene, I wouldn't want it at my front door.

Any opinions on the Carslbad and Encinitas areas?

Oceanside Carlsbad Encinitas are all nice North County but it’s not really San Diego like that. You’ll be 40 minutes from the city (but those are all beach areas, really beautiful but lots of old white people).

If you’re a young professional you want to be in Mission Valley or downtown

It’s too hard to generalize but I’m a native and still live here so if you want to chat hit me up :myman:

Oceanside, Carslbad, and Encinitas are all in what is considered "North San Diego".

There is definitely a scene like you are looking for, and the plus is it will be adults there. Not Timmy and Susie having their first drink.

The mass transit system is pretty much non existent out in Cali. Some trolleys, but no dedicated subway system.

The beach areas are appealing to me, almost more so than being central to the city. I hang out in Orange County a lot when I'm out there too, so being a bit North wouldn't be the worst thing. I've also been looking at San Marcos.

I'd be in my early 40's when I move with a soon-to-be 18-year-old, so I'd want something lowkey enough to be safe and somewhat family-oriented, but also with some sort of food/drink scene and young vibe nearby/within a short drive.

I'll definitely be hitting you up with questions breh, much appreciated.

I went to SD for my birthday earlier this month and the city was amazing. If I wasn’t considering moving to Seattle in a few years that would probably be tops on my list.

I'm also looking into San Marcos, but an adult's vibe is definitely more of what I'm after. As long as it's a safe neighborhood, 20 min drive from beaches and nightlife, and has a private yard I could smoke my weed in peace in I'd be happy.

I spent time in Orange County for 3 months in 2019 and I imagined myself living there by the end of my visit. I can't tolerate the Toronto cold anymore, so I am also looking at Southern California and Arizona (I can't fukk with Florida).

I've been considering this move too but don't want to be involved with mexicacs local hood politics like that :mjpls:..or this unavoidable in San Diego and Cali in general anyway?

Any recommendations where the upper middle class black/mixed neighborhoods are?
