I can't even imagine what the reaction to that BCC album was back in 1997. nikkas in Brooklyn was probably throwing that CD out the window.

First time I listened I knew it was gonna be some bullshyt because it STARTED with an 80s Throwback joint. The 80s throwback is supposed to be the track 10 "Let's take a breather and kick it old school for a lil bit before we hit the final stretch" song, not an album opener. That right there let me know they had no direction and nothing good to set the tone.

Like why the fukk did they just throw the Beatminerz in the bushes for them garbage ass Casio default settings ass beats

Honestly first that came to mind for me was J Cole's debut lol.

J. Cole tried too damn hard to make an "epic" debut album and overdid it instead of just making some damn music and letting it speak for itself. Two old ass mixtape joints? That bullshyt ass dubstep track? Wasting this beat:

Don't buy the "flood" excuse either. RZA has an encyclopedia-like memory/knowledge of martial arts flicks and music history.

No way that he lost beats because of a flood and had to make new beats, or whatever excuse they ran with for Meth's album being trash

I mean, that's exactly what the fukk happened

RZA lost all his floppy disks in the flood because he left them laying on the floor carelessly. Inspectah Deck's album was suppoed to drop in '94 too, and they lost all those tracks too. They threw Tical back together because Meth was in high demand.

And he had another flood in '96 though that hurt his equipment more than his beats for Ironman. That's why Ghost's vocals are weird on tracks like Fish and Motherless Child.

After nothing but heat with his mixtapes, I was expecting an illmatic type debut. But Damn that nikka dropped the ball hard.

Album was straight wack. His sophomore album ain’t that great either.

Skip right over Tical, because it was trash

No album with those songs could be trash. Nobody says it was as good as Cuban Linx or Liquid Swordz, but it was a banger and people liked it.

RZA’s production progressed a level by then too. He took a leap on the Cuban Linx album.

Canibus album isn't that bad in retrospect, I like it a lot more than I did 15+ years ago.

I can understand Big L's album being seen as a disappointment, but its nowhere near wack. It got held up by sample clearances and some of the better songs got changed/left off. Also, sound wise it feels more like a 93/94 album than a 95 album due to the time it was recorded. I think it would've fared better had it come out a year or so earlier. Its still a solid 4/5 LP in my opinion.

Another debut album that everyone waited for that ended up being mid was Dice Raw's
