NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
This album was good. Sold well, was received well by critics, had hits, has some classic Drake b-sides.

I hear it was a lil rushed but it's still a good album. Cole's debut was way more disappointing.
Drake debut was weak af. The singles was the best shyt on the album and I HATED “Over”. Like I said before. Cole’s true debut album was Friday Night Lights but technical shyt made him have to release it as a mixtape.

most of Wale’s first album is solid but that More About Nothing tape took him way higher

no doubt.

i'm not of the era for a lot of the albums in the poll to have ever registered with me. i guess the goofy Jay Electronica poll choice did, but i liked it.

but i can vividly remember my hype for the first Wale album and sitting there like :unimpressed: when i first heard it and i probably haven't heard it in a decade, but i was not happy at all.

I didn't like Over either mainly because that shyt was overplayed they even threw it on 2K but a lot of people fukked with that song.

Find Your Love was :trash:

But Light Up was big in NY not just because of the Hov verse but because it was part of the whole lite feet era it's a classic track.

Then you got shyt like Fancy, Up All Night and Miss Me that was everywhere back then and songs like The Resistance, Unforgettable, CeCe's Interlude album is good money to me.

Cole debut was trash and he had a lot of pressure to deliver coming off them tapes and was getting compared to Nas. The best songs on Cole shyt were already on FNL (like you said label shyt) and he also had a bunch of corny ass bars talking about leftover lasagna and outfarting him and shyt. :hhh:

Only songs that held up and was classic Cole was Breakdown and Sideline Story. Workout was also a good song :hubie: fukk what Nas said

it was an album that grew on me. Before Chillin, the only Wale song I knew of was Daytona squared. I actually thought Chillin was cool for a pop rap record. The songs on the album I didn’t like, I really didn’t like. But I remember loving Shades, Beautiful Bliss, Prescription, Contemplate, Pretty Girls, and Let it Loose on first listen

Workout was luck. Literally. nikkas wasn’t even jackin that song when it released for like 2 or 3 months. That shyt just blew up outta nowhere. Every J Cole fan I knew was disappointed wit that. And NO ID was weird for even disclosing his private conversation with Nas to Cole. The Cole goes and blows the shyt up to something big and made a whole song surrounding it. Fortunately Nas took the shyt in stride and responded and supported Cole. But yea. FNL was just as dope as any Kendrick project imo.

I don't know how Boot Camp Cilk fukked it up and it was 1997 too, they could drop dope group albums but when it came time together shyt was terrible.

I tried many times to get into that album and just couldn't
That’s what I voted for. They were the only camp that people sometimes mentioned in the same breath with the Wu back then, and they had a stellar track record:

Enta Da Stage
Dah Shinin
Nocturnal

Then the group project dropped and it was trash... like :mindblown:

Above the fray.
:mjtf: Tical was NOT trash. It didn’t meet expectations maybe but saying it was trash is absurd.
Never mentioned, never played. Even Wu fans pretend like it never came out. People mention the Enter 36 album, and then the classic debut solos that soon followed Rae, Gza, Dirty
Skip right over Tical, because it was trash
