Mos is still one of my favorite MC's.

I always said I wish he did more music, but I'm sitting on like 50+ unreleased joints that are better than a lot of his album shyt, so I've always been good with those. He was doing a lot of really dope shyt with Shawn J Period and other producers before Black on Both Sides, and a little after, that never saw the light of day. He didn't seem as focused a couple years after that on the other albums, but I still hold dude in high regard. We just needed more consistent music from him.

i think he could see thru the bullshyt and when the industry became so polluted with bullshyt, he just moved on

I listen to auditorium like once a week. The man is possibly one of the few lyricists that wouldn't be completely embarrassed by these hyper lyrical artists I:e the Nas, Jay elecs, black thought, Andre 3000s, Lupe fiascos of the world when he's truly in the zone. I don't think he's as technical, but he has a certain smoothness, intangible coolness that makes up for it. Def (pun intended) in my personal top ten. Man's so nice with it that I actually sit through whole talib kweli verses JUST to hear him rap, a feat unto itself

Mos is an amazing lyricist and a surprisingly gifted actor. That weird space movie he did… he killed that shyt. Yes I would have embraced more music from him but I’m grateful for what he has shared. Too often we demand more and more from artists until their work becomes diluted or the quality falls off and we are quick to let them know that either way we won’t let them just be great

Common had a full career of rap releases and multiple classics. How many rap heads have him in their top ten? I bring that up to say this…even if Mos gave you what you wanted I don’t think you’d revere him like that either because of his content. People always gonna have the more street, less underground dudes ranked higher IMO.

Personally I thought Mos had/has a great career. Black On Both Sides is a classic. The New Danger is a great album. True Magic is super underrated IMO and very good. The Estatic is great. Mos is in my top 15 at least, as is Common.

criminally overrated.

hes much better in a group setting. blackstarr couldve been a legendary duo.

not big on him as a solo. that "black on both sides" LP was meh.

People forget he was an actor BEFORE he was a rapper. Dude was like 16 starring with Bill Cosby on tv and shyt. He was always going to be in that “Hollywood” life as he was just talented as fukk.
He walked so Bino could run

this is facts, although there has never been a MC in that lane with as much charisma and crossover appeal like Mos. Common was close...

And True Magic is incredible.. “U Are the One” is beautiful... I had to rebuy this CD recently. Still looking to rebuy The Estatic

Common’s problem ain’t that he wasn’t street or that he was underground, Black Thought gets props and him and common were very similar artistically. Common’s problem that he diluted his appeal by making corny crossover records. When his film career started taking off his music clearly suffered. Before he started acting his music was focused and you could feel his passion for it, after he started acting it sounded forced. If he stayed focused I feel he would be spoken of higher.

Mos on the other hand I feel just liked to push the boundaries. BOBS is classic hip hop record. New Danger ain’t even a Mos album, it’s a Black Jack Johnson album with a few added Mos tracks and to me that’s a personal classic. True Magic had some dope records but it feels kinda unfinished, it’s a vibe but not something I’m always in the mood for. The Ecstatic was a dope return to music but then he stopped. It’s understandable that his passion for music was affected by his dislike of the industry. He also had a lot of other things going on in his personal life.

I don’t agree with the thread titled that he was a waste of talent, but it is kind of tragic we never got more from him because artistically he was one of a kind.

Common has been in my top ten and jumps in and out of my top five since I've started making these lists, he's the greatest Midwest MC of all time in my book.

People to this day are still anticipating music from Mos and he's still doing well. His career is fine.
