The thing is would ANY black female comedian be able to negotiate for more money? Somebody mentioned Tiffany Haddish earlier but I got a feeling that even she wouldn't be able to negotiate for more.

I understand Monique not being hot in the mainstream anymore. I'm not arguing that. By the same token the 500k still seems low. A comparison between all comics on Netflix in terms of their pay and popularity would be interesting to see. I also understand that in this field her Oscar win is unimportant but at the same time you would think that putting "Oscar winning actress" on the front page of Netflix would also help draw eyes onto the comedy special even if the Oscar win wasn't for comedy. In that sense, seemingly a pay raise does make sense. I'm not saying 10 million but at least 1 million.

I think Haddish would have more of an argument.

Matter of fact let’s just say we are in a Parellel universe and it WAS Tiffanny Haddish who just made this claim. She’s coming off the BEST year of her career, starred in a hit movie, coming off a critically acclaimed tv show (Carmichael Show) and just became the first black woman to host SNL...

The question is does that give her leverage to demand Shumer money?

Mayyyyybeee. A Haddish Netflix special would theoretically be more popular and relevant than a Monique special. Haddish doesn’t have any major awards to her name at this point but she could point to her best selling book and higher profile upcoming TV show and movie roles. She’d have a MUCH better claim to getting $8-10 Millie than Monique does. And it couldn’t be denied her relevance or popularity.

You only being lowballed if someone else is offering more. Netflix is not the only game in town.

She should take competing offers to the negotiating table. But maybe that turns her $500K offer to $400K. Calling for a boycott of the platform that you trying to secure a bag from turns it to $0 and probably shyts on all your future negotiations. Her agent or biz manager need to do a better job of advising her.
Which is probably why people are only offering her $500k in the first place. She didn't handle her issues right from the jump.

That's right Jamie won one too. Now, Jamie has been more in the mainstream than Monique. If Jamie got a Netflix special and he was offered under a million do you think he'd be able to negotiate and succeed? For how much more? Would he even be offered less than a million anyway? And if so what price would make sense for a Jamie Foxx comedy special in the current year? Consider also that Netflix can market the special with "Oscar Winner Actor" on their front page like they tend to do..

Jamie Foxx would probably laugh his ass off at a $500k offer. But again, we’re talking about leverage. Jamie Foxx has leverage. He’s still starring in movies that do decent box office numbers, and he Produces television, film, and other comedy films for other comedians. Besides that he does radio, hosts, and he’s got his music accolades. Jamie Foxx brings an element of an Auteur that’s unmatched by ANY entertainer except Donald Glover.

Now the question with Jamie would be is he worth Chappelle and Rock money? I think he’s EASILY get Shumer money, but as a straight comedian I don’t think people are clamoring for a Jamie Foxx standup where he could command $50 MILLION.

Matter of fact we probably need to take Chappelle and Rock out of the conversation entirely. The ONLY other comedian who Netflix would give that amount of money too is probably Seinfeld

But you know that wouldn't happen.

I don't even think Haddish would be able to argue for more and I don't think it would be near Schumar but maybe I'm wrong. And trust me I want to be wrong.

Now don't you think that's interesting that that wasn't Monique? Or even Whoopi Goldberg who also won an Oscar and is also a comedian? Logically wouldn't you ask both women to host soon after they won their Oscars? SNL has been around for decades.

I'm not going into conspiracy theories but some of this stuff is weird. The award only seems to matter in certain circumstances.

You should look into why she was blackballed because it wasn't just her being unprofessional. Like I said, it's well documented. Check YouTube or Ivette Carnell's interview with Monique.

Also her unprofessionalism (demanding what other Oscar winners get is considered outlandish in these Hollywood streets now, funny how that works) doesn't negate the fact that she, being an Oscar winner, was offered $500K. She's being punished for that Precious/Oprah shyt, plain and simple.
Breh Netflix is about making money, they don't give a fukk. Them giving her a show in first place can't be a punishment, it's not like everyone are getting their specials at Netflix :what:. Who else that's a retired part-time comedian, doing love and hiphop, never had any main role, cancelled shows, tv-show cameo is even getting Netflix Specials? :dahell:

If they are giving her a show in first place, we've already cleared any blackballing accusations. Then the price, they are most likely going by the market price. How many shows has she sold out lately, how many of Netflix demographics are fans of her, is she getting any primetime series, is she starring as main actress in any big movie and on? Rhetorical questions.

She got an Oscar for supporting, not for main and it wasn't a comedy.

It's like Cece Winans blaming Live Nation for racism and sexism cause she isn't getting what Kendrick gets for a show.

I think Jamie would get close to Schumar but I'm not sure if he'd go over her or would be even able to negotiate. Only because Schumar has been held up as this 'golden girl' and has had this big push behind her. Though that seems to be dwindling.

I agree with taking Rock and Chappelle out of the conversation.

For all the people saying that Monique is getting lowballed and should ask for more, how many of y'all are legit paying for Netflix?

I'm trying to see something
