Does Mo'nique still do comedy clubs? Honest question
Yes. Still tours, she's not in the limelight because of the black balling but she's still in these streets.Does Mo'nique still do comedy clubs? Honest question
Cuba has been putting in work recently with the OJ series and America Horror Story but I agree with the majority of your post.Cuba Gooding Jr won an Oscar. That nikka making straight to Blu-Ray flicks now..
An Oscar only nets you a pay increase if you stay hot (like Denzel or Leo) or only do “prestige” movies (like Daniel Day Lewis)
Monique isn’t “hot” in the mainstream anymore. Her run peaked with Precious and then Lee Daniels blackballed her. If she would’ve went on tour with her act and worked herself like say Chappelle did, where her fanbase stayed with her then she would have had leverage. How many fans have been clamoring for a Monique Special? When was her last tour? What were the box office numbers? What was her last starring movie role? What was the box office numbers?
Again she has NO leverage. Even amongst black comedians she doesn’t stand out. Even amongst black FEMALE comedians she doesn’t stand out.
There no way she was going to get Chappelle, Rock, or Shumer money. I’m surprised if she gets Cedric money. Cedric has a fanbase and over 25 years of material and touring box office reciepts to his name. Hell Kat Williams is hotter than her right now and he pretty much sabotaged HIMSELF
I agree with all of that. Apparently she does still tour though.
The thing is would ANY black female comedian be able to negotiate for more money? Somebody mentioned Tiffany Haddish earlier but I got a feeling that even she wouldn't be able to negotiate for more.Again she has NO leverage. Even amongst black comedians she doesn’t stand out. Even amongst black FEMALE comedians she doesn’t stand out.
I'm not trying to downplay her accolades. As far as her being blackballed, from what I read it was because of HER unprofessional or demanding behavior or something like that. Even so, the truth still remains that she doesn't have recent work to command more money in comparison to people with active work. The reason behind the break may be out of her control, but it's what it is.She's been blackballed since Precious, it's well documented. She's also a queen of comedy so while we can argue how much her special is worth, let's not down play her legacy like she's some third-rate comic.
There's not many women comics that are above her is what I'm saying. She deserves a million at least if Amy Schumer is pulling 10.
how the fukk you walk away from a contractual agreement and not fulling your end of the deal and you think you don't owe anybody???? chris was tricking with her half of the money that he was earning. there is a penalty for that in a marriageThis makes no sense because Chris Rock only owes her what he makes. There was no settled number.
Dave Chappelle doesn’t owe anybody anything. He was offered 50 million and turned it down, he has no tax trouble and he’s still married to his wife.
Dave was offered 60 million for three shows and he took it. You offer any comedian 60 million dollars for three shows and he or she is going to take it.

I understand Monique not being hot in the mainstream anymore. I'm not arguing that. By the same token the 500k still seems low. A comparison between all comics on Netflix in terms of their pay and popularity would be interesting to see. I also understand that in this field her Oscar win is unimportant but at the same time you would think that putting "Oscar winning actress" on the front page of Netflix would also help draw eyes onto the comedy special even if the Oscar win wasn't for comedy. In that sense, seemingly a pay raise does make sense. I'm not saying 10 million but at least 1 million.
That's right Jamie won one too. Now, Jamie has been more in the mainstream than Monique. If Jamie got a Netflix special and he was offered under a million do you think he'd be able to negotiate and succeed? For how much more? Would he even be offered less than a million anyway? And if so what price would make sense for a Jamie Foxx comedy special in the current year? Consider also that Netflix can market the special with "Oscar Winner Actor" on their front page like they tend to do.Jamie Foxx, that's it.
I agree that calling for the boycott was a bad move and do wish she move better behind the scenes. Not sure how much she can move considering the blackball treatment though. Some of this stuff shouldn't be publicly announced. You only being lowballed if someone else is offering more. Netflix is not the only game in town.
She should take competing offers to the negotiating table. But maybe that turns her $500K offer to $400K. Calling for a boycott of the platform that you trying to secure a bag from turns it to $0 and probably shyts on all your future negotiations. Her agent or biz manager need to do a better job of advising her.
You should look into why she was blackballed because it wasn't just her being unprofessional. Like I said, it's well documented. Check YouTube or Ivette Carnell's interview with Monique.I'm not trying to downplay her accolades.
