from his point of view it was better to have multiple wives than cheat on his wife , he was upfront with his first wife from day one , culturally its more acceptable in Africa and to be blunt many women would rather be wife number two or three than not be married at all , there is a big emphasis on marriage so its less of a taboo , in some circles its also seen as a sign of prosperity having more than one wife

Nigerian here. Polygamy is used to be common and like others had said before, it's stressful because all the problems in a regular monogamous marriage are multiplied with multiple women.

I'm literally shocked people think that polygamy is something the men can actually handle. It's really difficult to have a screaming house every night because the wives don't get along.

And come cats here think they can satisfy all the some sensually are in for a rude awakening. Some men get raped to death and it gets unreported lol

The argument would be that polygamy in the West would work differently than polygamy in other cultures. Polygamy/polygyny in the West would be practiced under a completely different set of social and cultural boundaries than in other places, which is why most people also wouldn't partake in it even if it were legal.

In that case, people might get married and still work. The incentive would probably be limited to women and men who have more fluid sexuality and forge marriages with people who also are interested in those types of relationships. I've known of (and heard of) couples like this that make it work, but they are very few and far between.

I don't think that "building wealth along racial lines" would be enough of an incentive for the vast majority of black men or women to practice such in the United States, though.

Sharing a man is better than no man, how many times have there been panels after panels and news pieces about how there aren’t any good Black men and Black women are so successful and can’t find a man to match them blah blah blah.

Problem is Black people think marriage is about love, and not a business.

Marriage is about business in every other races/cultures mind, and that’s why Africans/West Indians have more successful and stronger families than Black folks.

We’d be scary if Black men were are routinely having 3 wives that were working all 4 of them having their income streams into one household on top of 5-6 kids a house

It’s a pipe dream, but it’s truly a shortcut to success for Black people IMO.

Women’s minds just aren’t open enough, and nikkas ain’t thorough enough.

We’d rather all have a grip of baby mamas and side chicks all fighting each other instead of working as a team and building mini empires.
