I saw this on Tumblr so take it with a grain of salt, but I thought it was interesting.

I was completely on his side until I found out that there are not many people in the lockeroom supporting his decisions and here’s why: he doesn’t want to sing an extension. According to Fightful, TK doesn’t have a problem with giving him more money, because we all know he is worth every single penny. The issue is that Tony can’t give him more money without the guarantee of more years with the company, but MJF doesn’t want that, he is still wants to be a free agent on 2024. Granted, he is worth A LOT more money now that when he signed at first, we all know that. But in almost every single sport, you can get more money if you sign an extension. It’s just how it works, and it’s a fair deal.

I'm on TK's side. I did a deep dive into the pay structure as part of something I'm doing in school and the contracts in AEW are structured so that there is a fair spread of money. So women make about the same as the men (like almost exactly the same) and there is less disparity between performers in terms of pay. The pay gap between your midcarders and top card talent isn't as large as it is in like WWE.
The fact that TK is willing to renegotiate a contract to give MJF more money and possibly throw the pay structure for a loop is something new. It is only fair that MJf gives some time on that contract since TK is sacrificing something in return.
Legally speaking, TK doesn't have to renegotiate a damn thing about MJF's contract. It's a wise business deal and TK is posturing for what makes sense for a business deal.
This is going to get messy.
I didn't know everyone pretty much got paid equally in AEW.
