But it wasn't buzz that would make people want to watch. The whole point of his match was watching him get squashed. Why would more people buy the PPV if the one thing that was supposed to happened might not happen? It wasn't like there could be a big/awesome surprise that could replace Wardlow vs MJF.

That's why this being a work makes even less sense than being a shoot (just an awful business decision on MJF's part). This thing didn't create buzz that could make more money or put more eyes on the PPV.

There's no way this thing lasts 2 years, come on now :heh:
It's definitely buzz that would make people wanna watch and see what happened if he actually no-showed the PPV, then you have the intrigue of what they do with Wardlow, do they switch something on the card, etc. It's not like there was ever any doubt what would happen in the match if it went as planned. People started tracking deleted tweets and privatized YouTube videos for goodness sake, it definitely made interest in the angle much bigger in a hurry.

There are several ways to build buzz that don't include any of what happened in the MJF situation. If it's all a work, it's possibly one of TK's worst ideas.

MJF is one of the most in-character guys in the business right now, he loves getting heat more than anybody this side of Bully Ray, what better way to get heat than have AEW fans legitimately think he wants out or might no-show? He's much more hated after this weekend than he was at any point during his AEW run, now it isn't fans just playing along like before. Now he'll probably take a few months off and they can sell it as a "suspension" and when he comes back finally it'll be a big moment

People that were nerding out over the story were either buying the PPV anyway or were just curious about the fukkery but weren't gonna buy the PPV no matter. We are not agreeing on this clearly but I don't buy for single second a relevant/significant number of people went "I'll spend money to see how they book on the fly".

And people clearly wanted to see that squash, did you not hear the crowd going fukking bonkers for it and going crazy for Wardlow for the past few months?

It's an interesting situation. If they ice MJF until 2024, they'll look just as bad as WWE holding talent hostage. If they release him now, they're handing WWE a 25 year old top star for free.

If AEW can't make things right with MJF, the next best thing they can try is making a deal with WWE to let MJF and Sasha go at the same time. WWE's not making money burying and suspending Sasha and AEW's not making money icing MJF.
Yes they fukk they are! :gucci:

I don’t think it’s a work. MJF probably really wants to go to the wwe or at least wants Tony to pay him more

More likely scenario is that they came to a last minute agreement :manny:

I think we can all agree that it was stupid- be it work or shoot

Maybe MJF got caught up at the slots and by the time he realized he missed the signing the story had blown up and he leaned into it to save face :skip:
