It's an interesting situation. If they ice MJF until 2024, they'll look just as bad as WWE holding talent hostage. If they release him now, they're handing WWE a 25 year old top star for free.

If AEW can't make things right with MJF, the next best thing they can try is making a deal with WWE to let MJF and Sasha go at the same time. WWE's not making money burying and suspending Sasha and AEW's not making money icing MJF.

They’d be justified in doing it tho honestly

And AEW fanbase worships them so they wouldn’t have the same venom they have for WWE doing the same

I don't see a scenario where he's iced for 18 months. Suspended and missing the next two PPV events (Forbidden Door & All Out) and him not taking the title off of Punk seems like a more likely punishment scenario.

The big difference in this scenario is him no-showing a fan event. Unless someone is sick or travel schedule gets fukked up, WWE stars aren't purposely no-showing fan events on their own accord because they're unhappy. One thing to be upset with your contract or creative, but spilling over into fan events is crossing a line.

People keep bringing up Pillman, but this has more shades of Ultimate Warrior in 92.

That’s if you believe any of this shyt is/was real. A missed meet and greet is worth the short term L for those fans to generate a buzz the same weekend as a big NBA game 7

But it wasn't buzz that would make people want to watch. The whole point of his match was watching him get squashed. Why would more people buy the PPV if the one thing that was supposed to happened might not happen? It wasn't like there could be a big/awesome surprise that could replace Wardlow vs MJF.

That's why this being a work makes even less sense than being a shoot (just an awful business decision on MJF's part). This thing didn't create buzz that could make more money or put more eyes on the PPV.

There's no way this thing lasts 2 years, come on now :heh:

There are several ways to build buzz that don't include any of what happened in the MJF situation. If it's all a work, it's possibly one of TK's worst ideas.
