Who said I grew up in America?:skip:

Maybe Tyson was more popular from your American perspective, but not from where I grew up.

I never said YOU were American, I said Americans dont (as in most of the poster in this thread).

And no, Mike Tyson, from 86-90, was more popular from any perspective of a human being.

Mike Tyson did have a more cultural impact than Jordan,
Video games, Parodies, They even made a Simpsons character based on Mike Tyson

exactly.....Son I was born '79 and seen all that shyt.....and older nikkaz was around to explain shyt to me.....if you are talking about in their prime who was more famous it was easily Jordan......that is what the OP is asking....not who was more popular in Europe in the late 80's.....

so u were 10 years old at most in the late 80s and had a perspective of what was going on in Europe as far as boxing and how they viewed Jordan...keep in mind u didnt have internet back then...:shaq:

ol im older now so i can talk on this shyt better than u even tho i had no idea

Boxing is WAY bigger than basketball. Please.
In what world? Basketball is the 2nd most popular sport in the world, behind soccer... The 1970s are long gone.
Mike Tyson is more infamous than famous. He's been an embarrassing sideshow since 1991.
Boxing is deader than dead in Europe, ignored in Africa, South America (save Mexico) and Asia (except for the Pac fans)... and its popularity is nowhere near what it was in the past in the US.

I'm always amazed by that assumption.
Tom Brady, Favre, Manning, Bonds, Griffey, McGwire, Jeter and A-Rod could walk around Paris or London and nobody would recognize them (except maybe the occasional american tourist).
The opposite mostly is true for european soccer players here.
Basketball is the only US sport that's truly international (thanks to the 1992 Dream Team and the Jordan era).

Has Latin America been discussed? Because there was NO WAY Jordan's popularity came anywhere near close to Tyson's in that region. My fam is from Guatemala and a Tyson fight was a major event, everyone was either at home or in somebody else's house trying to watch the Tyson fight. Boxing is second only to soccer in central and south america, tyson was must see TV.

No basketball is global like that, just that Boxing is even more global. Look at it this way Boxing is just a small amount behind Soccer while Basketball is clearly behind soccer. 2A/2B
