It can't be overstated how much he was the voice of the NY/NJ area. I have fond memories of the shows after hurricane Sandy where sports were barely talked about, and everyone mainly discussed the aftermath and how they're getting by. Very comforting when most of us didn't have power for a week+ and relied on AM/FM radio for entertainment. Mike had everyone's attention then. He even put enough public pressure on his energy provider to stop dragging their ass and fix their shyt
It's just crazy how natural it felt to mainly talk local news on a sports platform. The passion and intensity callers had for sports crossing over into other aspects of life is something we don't get elsewhere. Can only imagine how it was around 9/11. I'm going to miss that aspect of his show a lot.
We just heard the last of traditional sports talk radio unfortunately, every show sounds the same these days. Pair up a host with an ex football player and have call in guests for the majority of the time with stupid sound effects and guys in their 50s trying to sound cool.

These other hosts would be canned if they kept it as raw as Mike has about prominent sport figures. He knocked the Penn State and CTE scandal out of the park.
