Someone called in a week or so ago and Mike mentioned in passing that he's gonna retire soon(ish).

The Fox Sports deal has been an unmitigated disaster(frequent pre-empting of his show). Plus he doesn't have the clout he used to at WFAN(Boomer and Carton bill more for their show than Mike does now, I also don't think he gets along well with the PD there anymore)

Yea, I had heard that, Mike saying that he even has an idea of the day. I think that was around the same time that David Letterman did his last show, he was in a kind of reflective mood.

I had read some of Raissman's stuff recently, and he was intimating that Boomer and Carton now have as much influence as Mike, if not more, and that the powers like them more because they're more team players than Mike.

He's #1 though I mean he's run New York. Only person who could fill the void is Dog or maybe Max. :manny:

I think his ratings have been dropping...and the amount of equity that spot has built up...idk how much drop off his replacement would have tbh

Mike said yesterday that he would take sometime off when he leaves wfan but not necasarily retire which surprised me.

He said he'd never go to espn ny but wouldn't rule out podcasting and tv.

I can see him doing something for the nfl network or something but I can't see him podcasting.Mike riffing for a few hours without calls would be a trainwreck

He would love it tho. I remember reading some interview he and Dog did back in the day, and Mike said something to the effect of that the callers were a necessary evil, and that they need to realize that him and Dog were the experts. He would love nothing more than to sit somewhere and give his opinion and take for a few hours. Ever notice how :gladbron: he gets on the few occasions he winds up talking politics or entertainment?

When the lines go down Mike always cuts to the break....idk if he could handle what Cowherd does or whatever. And with the internet, the audience is as educated as ever. Anyone who listens knows Mike or Chris arent experts anymore.

I remember the time that the Yanks had faced the Tigers, and this pitcher named Al Albuquerque was beasting on them, and one of the callers had called Mike to ask him about it, and Mike ran the dude off thinking he was trying to prank him. Someone had to tell him that it was an actual pitcher lol

Since he's not going to espn ny it sounds like Mike will do something national which will be cool but at the same time way out of his element

His knowledge is severely limited he's best taking 5 hours of dumb baseball trade calls

Will be interesting to see if he chooses tv or podcasting

ESPN cut back his show by an hr and removed his producer, Robin Lundberg. Pretty sure they also took away some other cats that worked on his show, so Max said fukk it and left. Saddest day in NY sports radio history was when ESPN dumped that entire block of Max and Stephen A(before he went full blown c00n) from 10am-2pm, that shyt used to hold me the fukk down during work. I listened to one day of Cowherd(ESPN NY went with Cowherd in their place once Max and SAS were gone) and said that's enough for me. I had never even listened to Joe & Evan before then, they're OK but not even close to what that block of Max and SAS used to be.

I would think that if Mike were to segment himself on a national scale, he'd prob be best suited for NFL talk (and fukkin horse racing). He can do Mets and Yankees all day, but national baseball? Naaa...besides, he always takes a lot of the summer off anyway & doesn't take a day off during football season.

And I'm getting a feeling that this change will occur this summer...before the NFL kicks back up. I'm anxious to see what'll happen.

Max is dope on LA radio, but u can tell he's NY to the core.

Dude be having rollin sayin he's feom Watts. They ask him where @ in Watts, he's like wher MLK meets Malcolm x blvd. Which aren't streets there.

Then when the kings was won the Stanley cup, he turned into a hockey fan and said he grew up in Canada playing every day :mjlol:

He's definitely entertaining, I just can't take all the Lakers talk :scust:

Dude recites some NY rap lyric every day. Im sure he'll go back to NY one day
