Every big thing they've dropped plays noticeably better on PC. And not even high-end ones. 2000 series cards are still doing better performance than the Series X on games with even halfway decent PC versions.
Scrap the division.
Package Game Pass with Microsoft 365.
Buy mid-tier indy devs and create the Early Access-to-Game Pass pipeline
Embrace being the go-to for B-tier games.
It'll hurt the pride. Of course it will. Imagine, spending all that money just to end up the Hollywood Video of video gaming
But the alternative is to continue to come in 4th in a 3-man race because they can't even beat their own PC division that supplies nothing but an OS and some drivers to the gaming experience at all

Seems fairly obvious that there was some internal debate as to what Microsoft's next move with Xbox was going to be and one of the sides dissatisfied with what was discussed started leaking the discussions before and conclusions were reached. Also seems like they didn't respond right away because the decisions weren't made. The gaming press went wild and some people creamed themselves with the possibilities. In the end nothing is set in stone.

If Microsoft told Phil Spencer to announce a change in strategy where they put all their games (including its biggest titles that made Xbox what it is today like Halo, Gears, and Forza) on PlayStation. That would be the equivalent of Billionaire Ted Turner telling Erich Bischoff WCW has to change their strategy in 1999. Then Erich Bischoff announcing their roster (including wrestlers who made WCW what it was like Ric Flair, Sting, Hogan, Goldberg etc) will also be available for rival company WWE to utilize..All it would do is kill WCW quicker than it did.
