All you had to do was announce the delay then blame it on the pandemic, the excuse is built in. And everyone would've understood because literally everything else in the world has been cancelled, delayed, or limited.
Instead you run out anyway and commit a PR mistake on your most important series. Now to fix that mistake, you have to make another and scrap last gen's version, going back on the good PR you tried building.

The halo release has been pretty typical, it's sony stans blowing things up.
The last of us 2 being delayed after it was done indefinitely and then getting it's whole game story released, getting trashed and boycotted and then getting announced with a release date right after was a bigger cluster.
