People are still overreacting to this. It will have a minimal impact on this console generation. We're hearing 2023 when the merger closes. That's 3 years into the generation. In 2024 maybe the policies start to change? Can't really say what deals were already in place. AAA development is 3-5 years. If they start putting those studios to work on Xbox Series exclusive games We're talking development starting in the latter half of 2023. 3 years puts those first wave games at 2026. 5 years puts them at 2028.

Either way you're looking at 6 years into this before any thing major comes out. Maybe in 2024 if contracts don't require it CoD gets pulled from PlayStation. That's still 4 years into a console generation which can be anticipated as at least half way in. By then the positioning will be set.

No that’s a misconception. That is the latest it will close, but it should close well before then.

It won’t change much in the context of “console wars” or who sells the most consoles, but it will definitely change/improve Microsoft’s position and their own goals. COD don’t have to be “exclusive” just being on Gamepass day one is a huge deal for Microsoft and their current strategy.

The impact of this is in the future not now. People are talking about this like it changes the landscape today. It doesn't. At least this year and next year Call of Duty is still likely to be on PlayStation. CoD being on Game Pass but still available on PlayStation won't mean much to current PlayStation owners who don't really want another system.

There’s obviously overreactions on all sides.

But even this year COD launching day one on Gamepass will make waves.

There’s lots of overlap, people own both consoles. This will make those peoples decision on which console to buy/play the game on much different than it was in the past.

Beyond that. The overwhelming majority of people that want a next gen console currently can’t get one. COD and other Microsoft titles being on Gamepass day one can and will influence which console people go buy once supply catches up to demand.

Not to mention with Xcloud you don’t even need a console and can play COD day one for ~$10.

As I think about it, no way in hell would it be. They wanted Gamepass previously. Things have changed. What if Gamepass was on a ps system then all of a sudden, Sony pulls the plug on it. Microsoft has gotten to the point to where they will only be on a platform that they either control or is so ubiquitous that the creator can't control it, save for Apple because they will dance with the devil on that one. Playstation does not offer the same amount of people that apple does.

Just warzone but not cod proper. Nothing from activision except f2p or mmos.
