I always felt like these uptempo 70s soul/blues artist created rap. And some pimps.

Only thing different is the beats. We really need to hear when the beats began to change.

I been looking at this

I’d say James Brown/Ike Turner created rap. They created the break beats that made funk

Disco DJs made funk hip it the club scene that spread to the ghetto

The ghetto created a merger for both

the DJ pioneers created a hip hop scene. DJ Hollywood provided the rhymes, Melle Mel made it a hot song

During the same (70s) Jamaicans who were influenced by mo town branched off their own thing which created clashing/toasting/ sound systems that also shaped the hip hop culture. But we all know where it originated.
James/Ike who were influenced by the blues.

Beautiful end to the story

One thing I will say I noticed

Bass players and drummers from the funk era deserve their credit for creating rap music. Those are the most prominent instruments I hear used in the break

Ike and James brown actually composed / produced their own records tho so then dudes there are really in their own league.
