This is Mickey doing press for the Pope of Greenwich Village in 1984.

Hes always felt that way about popcorn movies even at the top of his game. The message is consistant.

Hes always been an actor's actor. It's a shame his refusal to be political forced him to do all those bad roles to pay bills. Hes one of the best of his generation. There's a reason Sean Penn and Brad Pitt cite him as a massive influence.

Cruise played the game and got what he wanted. To be a superstar and make huge blockbuster pictures. Mickey contextualized it correctly.

Cruise isn't someone whos talented in or respectful of the craft so hes not relevant to what Mickey values in acting. Cruise's popularity is proof that while hes done some great works, his primary concern lies with shallow, easily accessible seat fillers.

Cruise fans more so than acting fans are taking issue with his views. That being said, Mickey's bitterness is evident here for name dropping Cruise specifically.

Vanilla Sky, Tropic Thunder, Collateral, Born on the Fourth of July, Interview with the Vampire, The Last Samurai, Magnolia.

Can you tell me where he’s not acting here?

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
He is tho

Tom Cruise has his go to range like many actors but he still has roles like Collateral that are far from the typical Tom Cruise shyt
Cool, calm, elite white operative... Whether good or bad...

Rourke is off on that 35 year shyt but since about 2005, that's about it

Salty. Also, he's not even correct. Tom was an excellent villain in Collateral, and he displayed some comedic chops in Tropic Thunder. And I think Collateral's one of the most underrated films of the 2000's. Vanilla Sky too...Eyes Wide Shut.

It's funny too because I went from a Tom Cruise hater to a huge fan. Say whatever you want, but Tom respects that art of filmmaking and genuinely wants to give fans an incredible moviegoing experience. He and Will Smith are kind of the last true American movie stars in a world filled with IPs and Franchises. Tom puts his life on the line every film at an advanced age and clearly puts a tremendous amount of passion into his projects.

Tom's basically the American Jackie Chan. My dad hates on Cruise for the same reason as Rourke does. IMO this is just the critique people use that don't like him anyways, and they're looking to give a reason. Do people really "want" to see Tom Cruise in A24 flicks? One or two might be dope, but I don't think that's really what anyone wants to see him do.

Also, after all the Oprah couch fiasco stuff, he decided to play the background. He seems like a private dude and he's not out there hamming it up in the media or on TMZ regularly, and I respect that.

EDIT: Last Samurai was kind of different. He wasn't a goodie two shoes in that. EDIT 2: Magnolia...

Indeed. Stanley Kubrik wanted him for EYES WIDE SHUT. Kubrik is a big deal, he wasn't a easy director to please.
He damn sure wasn't. One of the most infamous directors in terms of not being super easy for actors to work with. if he wasn't outright fukking with you, he wasn't helping you at all with your character. Apparently he was famous for leaving that job up to the actors. You had to know how to do your own homework with your own character in a Kubrick flick.

A lot of actors do this. :ld:

Cruise been on a lot of movies I like, but he’s definitely not a wide ranged actor.
He's not very wide ranged, but he's got more range than people think.
hes crazy, didnt he learn to fly a helicopter as well to do his own stunts?
Yeah, he did, and he would've flown the planes in the new Top Gun movie but they wouldn't let him. So he did the closest thing and had them put him in the back of a fighter plane and he mimicked what the real pilot sitting in front of him was doing. He also broke his leg jumping from one building to another in the last MI movie and got up and kept running to finish the shot. Dude's crazy. He he'd his breath for 6 minutes for that movie too, and in his next movie they're shooting it up in outer space.

There's a reason why Mickey fell off after his comeback in The Wrestler. The guy is an a$$hole and difficult to deal with. Tom Cruise was bringing people back to the theater this year… what the fukk has Mickey Rourke accomplished besides pissing his career away after his comeback?

tom cruise is 60 years

its crazy when you think of it how cruise continues to drop action blockbusters at his age. You have guys younger than him going straight to tubi, netflix, prime.

Giving us two mission impossible films in the next two years
:wow:
