Real talk though….. I did win an AAU championship and do pretty well on a yearly bases with my different leagues.
I coach Rec, AAU, and YMCA ball. Though we kinda fell back post pandemic cuz we was going nonstop before. When I say we, the last 6 years I been coaching with one of my high school ball rivals and close friends. We are a combo deal at this point so you can say our teams have 2 head coaches. It’s just easier for us to manage and delegate different things to each other.
I typically devise the offense/defense plays and strategies for the games. I try to let him do a lot of the drills in practice.
Also I handle the conversation and politics with the parents and on game days, he does for the most part the subbing (which I love cuz everytime a scrub guys comes to me about “when can I get in coach?”
I be like “you gotta talk to Coach H, he handles that”
)
while I can do or be conscious of the stats and make adjustments on the sideline.
In our leagues we run a 2-1-2 half court defense that be fukking other teams up
Cuz everyone else runs man, 2-3, or occasionally 1-3-1. Which we too used to run our first 2 years but decided to switch it up cuz.
I wanted to get them to fullcourt 1-2-1-1 but we don’t have the full personnel or players with good IQ to run that
Near year I gonna try something new though
