prince has never played to a crowd this large in his career, he never reached that madonna/U2/michael jackson level of fame:

but i already asked that question on the previous page:

you own "rave unto the joy fantastic"? "rainbow children?" there is no doubt great skill involved to write, produce, and sing songs that you wrote yourself

but don't people have to appreciate your art to be labeled an artist?

I also own PRINCE new album, he's talking about THOTS and being from "upper mini-i've never run from any"....they call it experimental, but he's trying to appeal to that younger audience...he knows he hasn't had a chart topper in some decades :sas1:

prince is clearly one of the most talented musicians to ever live...but who owns these albums?

if you are a great artist, don't you have to create great art? :patrice:

people can say what they will about michael jackson, but every album he dropped as a solo artist contained multiple classic or great records.:manny:

I have all those albums, but that's Prince in a nutshell he's a artist first and a hitmaker second. All of albums had great songs on them even if they weren't super-hits.

I do agree, Prince is trying to make up for the fact he hasn't really tried to appeal to a younger audience in about 20 years. In fact he's been somewhat hostile to younger fans.

-Musical Acumen: Prince definitely gets the nod as a multi-instrumentalist and what he did for the game from the perspective of syncopation, use of synthesizers and oh my God it's so commonplace now we don't even realize that nobody was doing what he was doing with the snare before him and it's a travesty! I will say this however, and maybe because we weren't really let behind closed doors to watch MJ work in the studio, but he's just as much a 'producer' as Prince. If Dre is producer, MJ is a producer! If Quincy Jones is a producer, MJ is a producer! I can't find the videos, but I know Quincy Jones has some footage and I've heard outtakes as well, but my life changed when I heard MJ beat box the initial foundation for "Wanna Be Starting Something". Same thing for "Another Part of Me" and the first draft of "Working Day And Night" with him and Janet and other folks using random household objects/percussion ala Jimmy Fallon & The Roots to map that song out. Dude would walk into the studio and physically dance or actually beat box (ala Timbaland)the structure of a song for his musicians to translate into notation :wtf:
