I hear you but i just don't see it that way.

when you have artists like Michael Jackson, U2, Eminem, Stevie Wonder, who have been at this for decades, and just about every album they drop is critically acclaimed, highly anticipated AND people love the music - this kinda knocks prince out of the discussion...

I understand being an artist and a musician, but those people playing at those pubs in your city that you WON'T be going to see tonight are "artists" too so to me that's not saying much...

I'm a prince fan, I own a lot of his albums and like i said bought that new one just the other day...but he just has too much forgettable skippable music in his catalog to be on that level of a great entertainer...great musician/artist absolutely...but he isn't the same player in the game as he was in the 80's and 90's..

Each one of those artists have dropped their share of duds. None of these artists you mentioned are in their prime anymore, I mean had people saying Michael was done after Invincible. Also Prince's output far outpaces of those artists, dude has over 35 albums and maybe twice that amount in unreleased material. Not even mentioning group albums, collabos and the hundreds of songs he's written produced and arranged.

well, prince had the #1 grossing tour in 2004 or 2005, he's no lightweight at all and he's going to always be relevant culturally...

but let's keep it 100: prince went almost a decade refusing to perform his hits from the 80's and his career stalled and was damn near over...when he started back to doing them, he picked up steam

i mean we're all fans of his but he's not selling out arena's doing tracks from RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC, NEWPOWER SOUL and COME albums :comeon:

and don't get it twisted - michael jackson was not "DONE" after the invincible album....mike spent 30 million dollars in the studio recording that album so that cut into the marketing, sony also wanted that sony/ATV catalog back from him, it was a rare case of a record label actually standing to gain from one of their premier artists albums not doing well: Michael Jackson's House - Michael Jackson Fan Page - www.mjshouse.com

but those THIS IS IT tickets sold out faster than anybody ever, and this was after the second trial....mike was actually about to embark on yet another ERA of his career

....
You mean "Prince."

For the record, I consider Prince to be quite talented. He's experimental, does some unique stuff, can write quite well, as evidenced on "Nothing Compares 2 U". Premo and Timbaland are huge fans and clearly there's an element of Prince in some of my all-time favorite hip hop. I just don't know a single song of his that I think is fantastic, other than "Make Up" by Vanity 6 (that song is so ahead of its time it's not even funny). "Kiss" is a good song. But it's not "Beat It" or "Wanna Be Startin Somethin", nahmean?
So you're not feeling When Doves Cry or Raspberry Beret or Alphabet Street or Diamonds and Pearls?
