Honestly I see Michael B Jordan as more of a blockbuster type actor in a more similar vein to Will Smith.

Chadwick could possibly be the new Denzel dude has played mostly iconic roles like Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, James Brown and even got an african accent down to play T'challa. Chadwick is way more versatile from an acting standpoint than Michael B

He's already 41 though, by the time he finishes this marvel contract he'll be in his mid fifties. Idris Elba is only 45 and starting miss out on roles due to his age. So his career is pretty much what it's gonna be now. Although that said i say that is a pretty good catalog.

I actually agree with the OP. My initial thoughts when seeing Black Panther was that Michael B. Jordan was miscast.

He still needs to develop but there was something with his voice that screamed “amateur”. Can’t exactly put my finger on it though.

What does Chadwick's age have to do with it. It's proven in acting the older you are the better the roles you get. Denzel didn't even do training day until he was almost 50. As for Idris he's becoming more of a household name the only role he's really missed is bond and that's obviously due to cac reasons.

I liked the performance overall. Been rooting for MBJ for years but I can agree that he wasn't intimidating and it's really all in the voice. Just lacked the grit it takes to pull off a hardened veteren with hundreds of confirmed kills.

You can't say "IS THIS YOUR KING" wasnt on point tho. So he definitely had his moments.

I wish they gave him for lines where he wasn't suppose to shout, he needs more normal voiced lines for lack of better words. Like at the museum or talking to his dad.

Also I felt like hearing his american accent in the mix with all the african accents might have made some of his lines seem really jarring.

First let me start off by saying I salute him. Hes been grinding for years and hard work pays off, so he deserves the money and fame.

WIth that said. I have gave him time n time again to prove me wrong.

First was in Fruitvale Station, when his character would start getting mad and start talking hood, i said that he wasn't convincing.

Then in Creed, when he would charge nikkas up, I still felt it was unnatural.

I go into Blacc Panther thinking, maybe this is it. Maybe he finally found his comfort zone and can be a believable villian/tough guy. But still it wasn't there.

I dont care how much muscles he puts on or how many slugs he puts in his mouth, he just doesnt convince me as a bad guy/tough.
Maybe its his voice, idk

stop hating on the boy

I thought he killed it playing killmonger

and This is coming from someone that thought he was a bit overrated.

Edit: I still think he's overrated but I think he fit the role of killmonger

it's funny how many circles yall are talking yourselves into to say things like he's a "brilliant" actor. he's not bad by any means, but he has limited range. he's not strong at delivering believable performances where heightened emotion (especially anger) is required. his lines fall really flat and even his body language lacks. thing is, by virtue of being in critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, he doesn't have an external motive to get better, maybe he will based on his internal drive, but as of now, he's just an ok actor.

your stars are but dust on my shoes
100% agree. Jordan had a lot to work with and never convinced me once as a villain. Great performances is something like Tom Hardy in Revenant, Javier Bandem in No Country For Old Men and Skyfall, Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs etc.

Maybe it's a bit unfair to expect too much from Jordan though -- it is a PG13 film released by Disney's Marvel after all. In that regard, Jordan did a good job, his portrayal was very safe, and maybe a better word would be sanitized. Black Panther has to tip toe around serious material, and so it makes sense that they go light on the racial aspect while also employing an actor with high mainstream appeal to play the villain.

Michael b Jordan is a movie star - he is not a method actor or a classically trained one like daniel day lewis or denzel washington

you can bill him as a leading man, but have to surround him with some of those type of actors to bounce off of to elevate his game

I wouldn't say he isn't convincing though; he did a great job in CREED, but definitely not an oscar worthy performance :comeon:
