People gotta stop with this, "This is how songs are written today" bullsh*t.

Nah, this is Hip Hop. Go read some credits from the golden era classics. The only people that should be writing on the record, are the MC, the producer, and all guests on the track, or the people you sampled. You are NOT supposed to have other artists or writers penning your sh*t, if you're trying to pass as an MC. We are not gonna start changing the rules of the genre to cater to talentless dudes who don’t have the ability to bar up and pick up their own pen to write.

It didn't take 20+ writers to put together any of the classic albums from the 80's or 90's. The best sh*t that's ever been created in this culture, was done by actual greats who knew how to write lyrics and structure their own sh*t. People are letting popularity blur the line between real and fake, and that's not gonna fly. If you can't express yourself by writing your own sh*t, then what value are you even bringing to the table? The dude writing your sh*t should just make the songs his own, and we could listen to those. But this thing where these dudes are taking songs from other people, even for diss records, and trying to be the face of the words as if they're their own, is weird and needs to be called out. Every single time.

Get rid of ALL these n*ggas.
Drake is a pop artist like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. He be singing on records just as much as he be rapping if not more. I heard Beyonce rapping on Savage Remix and she sings mostly. Is she suddenly hip hop or is she still a pop singer?

The real problem is all these young kids wanna elevate the bullshyt made today to GOAT status. Most of these artist today aren't half the artist of actual GOAT contenders. Somebody not a GOAT candidate cause they floated their own name or some stand floated it.

What the fukk the GOAT of the rap game look like being a part time rapper for anyway?

Why does it matter in hip-hop if you wrote the song or not?

Genuinely asking because no other genre has that requirement. Is it because rap is the easiest Genre?

It mattered because it was protection against what happened every day in those other genres you're talking about. White singers would lift entire songs, arrangements, etc. from black singer-songwriters, chart on the segregated Billboard charts and not credit the originator nor pay them a dime. Biting is taboo because there's a long history of black singer-songwriters being stolen from and Hip Hop's originators were the sons, daughters, nephews, cousins, etc. of these artists who were cheated out of millions of dollars.

Ghostwriting ain't the same thing as biting but it's taboo for the same reason. A genre where its normal for the stars to not write their own lyrics is a genre where its far more likely copyright isn't being respected across the board.

Drake is a pop act, yes.

But he should never be in the same sentence as MJ or Whitney. Ever.
