Im not a crack baby pimp I have a good memory of my childhood and Nas definitely was not beating Method Man in terms of popularity in 1994. Idgaf about how many people on your block was playing “It Ain’t Hard To Tell”. This is a universal conversation

Dude has LL as KONY in 1987 and Slick Rick as KONY in 1988. Eric B. and Rakim ran undeniably ran1987. Slick Rick's album didn't even come out until November 88 so how did he run NYC in 1988? KRS - One RAN NYC when the bridge is over came out. Run-DMC was on tour in 86.

Dude is just pulling names out his ass without any explanation of how he came to these conclusions. It's not about being accurate it's just about engagement and traffic to his page because he knows the more comments you get,the more the algorithm pushes you.

Bigger and Deffer is the second studio album by American rapper LL Cool J. It was released on May 29, 1987, by Def Jam Recordings and Columbia Records1. The album was a commercial success, going triple platinum and becoming one of the most successful hip-hop albums to that point2. It showcased a young artist who was successfully elevating his game to the next level2.

There needs to be some type of reasoning or criteria for this list.
If we are doing groups, then Onyx in 1993 over A Tribe Called Quest (Midnight Marauders) and Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) doesn't make any sense.
Not only was Bacdafucup double plat, Slam was EVERYWHERE, and they had biters. LOTS AND LOTS OF BITERS. 36 Chambers is arguable, but was more of a slow burn. Mainstream wise, they were looked at like Method Man and Friends for a minute. MM is a better album, and a true classic, but ATCQ didn't sell and weren't blown up like that, sadly and unfairly.

List is already shaky even though I see his point

Meth was big in 94

He gotta give 95 and 96 to Big and Nas …maybe Rae or P

She was hailed the Queen of Hip Hop when she came out

Think outside the box and use your brain

Grand Puba is the only other obvious choice for 1992.

New Jersey and The West Coast had the rap game on lock but NYC had R&B on lock by way of Mary J Blige because of the hip hop influence her music tied into the soul

Its a classy way of giving her her props in the hip hop realm that she deserves
Thank you

It makes all the sense in the world if you was actually outside to see the bald heads and hockey jerseys take over over night.

They are in the same category as Cypress Hill, Bone, Snoop, DMX, and 50 in terms of hype when they first hit.

The influence they had on the culture will never be adequately told.

One example:

This term did not exist until this song came out
